Hi All,
I have just picked up my new Primara SVE with cream leather, taken my wife and daughter for a ride. Daughter found a pen in my jacket pocket and scribbled on the back of my seat.
So the question is what is good at getting pen out of leather!! I have tried water as a first attempt with no luck. It was just a normal ink rollerball pen.
Any ideas?

Stain Devils do an ink disolver (I think that its in a blue tube).
It may only be just for biros but I'm sure that they will produce a suitable one for your problem.
To be double safe try it somewhere hidden first just in case it marks the leather.

Try methylated spirits - but again, trial an inconspicuous area first.
Good luck - otherwise it may be an insurance claim for new seats....

I have already been trying different stain removers and ran up to Tescos to get a Stain devil No1 for ink. This has made it a lot better but not cleaned it completly. A freind said to try surgical white spirit so will try that on a small bit of the seat first.

I have cleaned dirty oil from light-coloured leather seats by wiping briskly with carburettor cleaner! I then applied zymol leather conditioner to replace any oils removed by the solvent. As long as you dont saturate the leather or rub to much or take too long, a solvent doesn't seem to cause problems.

Ask a specialist suede/leather clothes cleaners or (perhaps via a dealer) a car upholstery cleaning specialist. Also, retailers of horse-riding gear have good leather-cleaning stuff.

depending on how well supported it is, repeated rubbing will stretch the leather. It doesn't have to stretch much to forever have creases in it. I'd do as Roger suggested and take it to a cleaning specialist.

Look at the GLIPTONE website or phone them on 01706-819365 - if they can't fix it, get your daughter to do a Tellytubby on the seat to camouflage it?

First run your daughter through a food blender until a fine paste is created add a little white spirit and apply to the leather. No, No only joking.. This is a difficult one because you have already applied a chemical to it so it may have changed the chemical composition of the stain. I would now try a little white spirit rubbing with a cotton cloth for a couple of minutes then wash with mildly soapy water and rub dry. This removed Biro type ink from a light leather sofa without trace. Good Luck Peter

Halfords have a range of cleaning preparations. The "get grease off velour " one works well. Don't know about pen & leather.

I seem to remember milk is ideal for removing ink stains. Not sure if it's realistic to submerge the stained area in a glass of milk as you would a pair of trousers. It does work though !

How annoying Jlo - I've always used ordinary cheap hairspray to remove ball point ink, permanent marker etc. and it never fails.
Haven't tried it on leather though so be very careful and try it on a small hidden area first. Milk is also supposed to be very good.

Hehe...I did exactly this to the seat of my dad's new Cortina when I was small! Seem to remember them using cream shoe polish at the time but I could be wrong.

Try sterilising solution such as Milton which is a mild bleach and will take out the colour of the ink but will probably not bleach the leather. However do test it first on an inconspicuous area of leather.

Some years back a friend picked up a brand new large Merc with white leather, then took his wife to a BBQ party were lots of red wine was drunk (by her anyway).
On the way home, maybe due to a bumpy road, who knows, the red wine found it's way back up again all over the new uphostelry.
Whether by coincidence I don't know, but she was out of his life before the stain was....

Running a Google came up with quite a few suggestions. The hairspray one comes up a lot, but so do people saying it doesn't work!
This one seems fairly professional to me -
"Ink is a dye. Your leather has literally been re-colored to the color of that ink in the affected area. As such, it is not something that can be "cleaned", as any cleaning compound that is strong enough to remove the ink, will also remove the surface color of the leather. Ink sticks are available from various sources. However, we urge caution, as there are generally two outcomes.
1. The ink is removed along with the surrounding color, leaving a larger, "bleached" area.
2. The ink is smeared, leaving a larger smudge mark.
There are some things you can try. Using a soft, white artist's eraser, gently trail down the ink line with the eraser. This may lighten the ink stripe. Another strategy is to do nothing. One of ink's attributes is that it migrates into porous materials. If there is a small amount of ink, it may dissipate into the leather, presenting a decreasing amount on the surface, and may eventually fade away entirely. This is unlikely with any heavy concentration of ink. Keep in mind that the ink isn't harming the leather, and is an aesthetic issue only. In the end, the ink can be removed successfully, but may require professional attention."

Well I think peterD may have hit the nail on the head here - the efectiveness of any or all of the 'remedies' may well be compromised by what's already been applied.
As regards the hairspray, since I found out about it about 3 years ago I've tried it numerous times as you'd imagine with 2 young children to contend with. It really has never failed on hard surfaces or soft materials. In fact, my wife's old white uniform got soaked in ball point ink when a pen leaked in her pocket. The spray got it all out.

Use baby wipes or HOT soapy water and a cloth, get the baby wipe/cloth over the tip of your finger and press on VERY firmly directly over the stain and work the cloth/wipe in a forward or backward motion following the lines of the ink (not so much of a rub)
I know this works because our kitten decided to scribble on our cream leather settee when we were at work, all traces have been removed and the leather has kept it colour.

Thanks for all your advice and coments. The Stain devel ink remover worked the best so far and has made the ink (It was only on a small patch of the back seat) now very faint so I think I will live with it.
Company car anyway and I am sure I will gain some 'dings' from people opening the car doors in to my door and stone chips soon.

my 2 year old drew biro all over my cream leather.. i washed with soapy water first and then beleive it or not used V05 extreme style freeze spray gel and it just dissolved it straight away all gone and no damage to leather.. i tried white spirit also first as a upholstery company told me to try this and it done nada.. nothing at all.. best of luck all..
