Why is my Kia over-revving on gear change?
I have a 2017 Kia Sportage with 65k on the clock and FKSH. Very early on the purchase I reported that on changing down to 3rd gear as indicated by the dash display the engine would rev excessively while in neutral before it enters into the selected gear. Upon reporting this the dealer said it was due to the clutch showing signs of wear and tear. The clutch was replaced, but the problem still persists. What could be the cause of this issue and how can it be fixed? I assume whatever it is the warranty should pick up the bill. I’ve had the car for about 5 months now.

We have seen reports from other owners of Kia vehicles that have experienced the same issue. For the majority of those affected it appears to be an issue with the clutch switch which could be faulty or may need adjustment. Your vehicle is fitted with an anti-stall system but it the clutch switch is not operating correctly this can cause over revving when changing gear. We would suggest returning to the dealer and asking them to check this part of the system, or take your vehicle to an independent Kia specialist.
