Taxing a used Van/Car - Timboellis

I am looking at a van at a dealers tomorrow, so on the assumption i want it I will be buying it and picking it up same time.

However I have not insured it yet, so if i insure it lets say at 10:00 then call them up after that I assume then that the tax lot will not tax it for me as they will not see the insurance on it.

Is this correct or is the system live where they will see it instantly?

Cannot find a source but I've an idea you no longer need to show insurance for tax. Enforcement of continuous insurance is done by x/checks DVLA to MIB and roadside ANPR.

Certainly if you tax at a PO you only need the tax reminder or V5/new keeper form plus MoT and reduced pollution cert (whatever that is) if applicable.

When we acquired a car in October 2014 we insured it at about 10.00 am and taxed it on-line immediately after. Either the system updates intantly or insurance is no longer checked, I suspect the latter.

I've also read the same, insurance is no longer checked.
