Online private plate transfer - NAthan smith

Hi all
Has anyone used the new online system to transfer you private plate onto retention? Is it quicker that filling out and sending off the endless paperwork? I'm thinking of selling my car and want to get it back on the original plate asap

I've not used it, but know a couple of people who have. They've found it very fast.

In one case, it was virtually instant - he had the new reference numbers there and then, and the new V5 2 days later.

The other case it took 4-5 days.

If you're looking to change the car, then just get on with it now. It CAN still take a few weeks, as DVLA have the right to pull any vehicle out out for full vehicle checks and inspections.
