Actually for drain inspection, trying to locate/detect possible leaks in unreachable underfloor areas. I seem to have fixed the two I can see and JUSTreach, at least for now, but am concerned there may be others.

Its possible I might also want to use it in an automotive context, but I no longer have a car, so probably unlikely.... Read more

Our caravan weighs 1600kg unladen, so I was wondering what the best cars that do not cost and arm and a leg may be to tow it with. I had a Mondeo previously that could tow 1800kg. Wondering if I should go for same but estate this time (not many about), or try for something different like Skoda Superb.

Any caravan owners have other thoughts. Cannot afford an SUV really, but willing to look at anything people think worth a squint at.... Read more

Thanks for your replies.

My only concern with higher end cars are the cost of running and repairs, as I have to live on quite a tight budget. Will have a look at them though, and then look at cost of running and repairs.

Hi stumped on this one- I’ve got a 61 plate Alhambra 1.9tdi, always been super reliable till the turbo recently went and was refurbished, afterwards all was good till the coil light started flashing and the car went into limp mode a diagnostic gave error code P2563 turbo boost control position sensor circuit range/performance, can’t find this sensor and the fault is stopping the dpf regeneration- spent money on it don’t really want to spend much more- is it this sensor is it the actuator or something else?? Help please Read more

Took it to a garage who have said the problem is the dpf I’ve had that cleaned but now they have told me there is play in the turbo and that’s what is causing the problems, I’ve got power and the turbo works which makes me think the actuator is fine? This is really confusing

I've had my Corolla Estate about a year. 87,000 miles now. In the year of having this car I've replaced the Drop Links 8 time's, due to a knocking on the front end. Each time the car is quiet for some miles, then it starts knocking again. An MOT inspector said he'd have to pass it as he can see nothing wrong with it, even though a test drive showed there was definitely a knocking. Any ideas, it's really got me down and at a loss. Thanks for reading Read more

Assuming a similar arrangement to my Avensis, I'd say check the front struts top mount. For some reason, the nut on top gets loose with all the potholes; easy to tighten and apply some locktight as well, so it's stays shut.

Hi sold our car yesterday to a private buyer. He takes the green slip. Went to DVLA page this morning and the doc reference number isn't recognised, so called DVLA and they said write to us confirming sale, which I have done and emailed the signed letter to the buyer so he knows what's going on.

He is now panicking asking who is registered keeper and he says the insurance policy he took out this morning has been cancelled because he's not the registered owner/keeper and DVLA told him not to drive car until he receives new V5 which might be 4 weeks.... Read more

The car seems to be in limbo between a registered keeper (who no longer owns the vehicle and has no access to it) and a new owner who cannot be registered as keeper until DVLA update their records.

The instant transfer online is great if it works, but that shouldn't affect the question of who exactly is the registered keeper at this exact moment and what was the situation before that online facility existed?

My imported Honda Stream, which may have to be pensioned off, has a hard drive to automatically record all the CDs that are played. We have 125 albums on it and counting. This is a very useful feature. -Far more convenient than playing music from a mobile phone, even with bluetooth. Does anyone tell me which other cars, preferably meant for the British market, have this feature? Read more

Here's a YouTube video that demonstrates this feature:

Does anyone have a C-Class estate and would be willing to measure the height of the boot (the tallest section right behind the back seat)? I'm considering buying one but want to check it'll be tall enough for my dog. There isn't one for sale anywhere near me so trying to save what could be a long wasted journey. I've looked online a lot but can't find that exact measurement, just the boot opening measurement from RIDC which will be different.

Many thanks,

Will try to measure mine when I get home, but to be honest it’s not what I’d pick to transport dogs. It’s not a big car both in the cabin or the boot, our previous Toyota Avensis was a much more practical (and better built) car. If anything our Nissan Leaf is a more spacious vehicle.

Not sure if should have posted this or in general discussion, however, am looking to purchase used model of above car for towing a caravan. On checking MOT history, this has been a recurring theme over the years.

My question then is, when coming across this issue on MOT tests, could this be hiding a significant issue for the car going forward in respect of possibly costly repairs. My instinct tells me it is, however, I am not very well up on any cars younger than late 70's models.... Read more

Thanks for your response. It's a 2017 reg.

I have since managed to find some information on this issue, so maybe having one fitted on a younger car is less likely to be an issue than not?...

The facts:
Bought "SUV" from dealer in June 2024. Very happy with car, it's about 10 years old.
Part cash, part PX, part finance, total around £8000
July, engine light comes on
Advise dealer of this by phone.
They say, keep us in the loop.
Diagnostic check shows advisory that glow plugs might need changing in the future.
August, we get the aircon condenser replaced (we knew this needed doing, it formed part of the deal when buying the car)
The garage doing the aircon check the engine light and codes are P0380 glow plugs and P1489 low pressure EGR temp.
This diagnostic process involved some labour charges which were mixed in with the cost of diagnosing the aircon issues.
Next step - I called the finance company and they went through a list of questions, including "what is your preferred outcome?" the answer I chose is "fix the car" rather than "reject the car" as I do genuinely like it.
They said they will respond in 5 to 10 working days.
I'm thinking the first moral of the story is always part finance a used car no matter how caked up with money you are as the finance company will make sure the dealer does the right thing.

The finance co didn't just say "sorry we can't help you" so they must be doing "something".... Read more

UPDATE

slight delay while I was abroad but the result is in: the finance company oversaw the whole process, the car was repaired at my local garage, over £400 in repairs all paid for by the dealer with no arguments and no discussion with the dealer, which I'm very grateful for considering how incompetent the dealer's staff are. The moral of the tale is always use finance for *part* of your purchase because if owt goes wrong, they will fix it for you!...
