My son's first car is a Suzuli Swift 1.2 (from 2013). It's been flawless for the last couple of months, but just recently it's developed an intermittant fault.
When engine is started, and he tries to put it into gear it will not go in. Says makes a noise like you have tried to put it into gear without using the clutch. The clutch feels normal. When he restarts the engine it goes into gear just like normal.... Read more
Hi,I would really appreciate any recommendations for a used small auto in the £10 to £12k price range.I am looking for my wife and am pretty much aware of all the various options but as there are no torque converter boxes these days, and due to her having a dislike for the automated manuals, her last car was a Pro Ceed auto,I am a bit stumped.I suppose the safer option would be either a Yaris or Jazz CVT?…The Corsa 1.4 autos are cheaper, anybody have one of these please? Thank you.
Hello,
I have a Peugeot 508SW Hybrid which I purchased not too long ago (couple of months) It appears in that time my front offside tyre has developed a slow puncture (will lose about 10PSI over 3 weeks) and it is just around 3mm of tread depth so I am considering replacing rather than repairing - They are also summer tyres and I would prefer All Seasons.... << .... the old trains had a facility to apply sand to the track before the driving wheels. I would have thought it would be sharp enough to pierce a layer of slimy leaves under the driving loco's weight. >>
I don't know about sand on modern trains, but those disc brakes are efficient enough to lock axles if applied with too much force, even without leaves on the line. That easily causes flats on the wheel(s) which can often be heard passing my house :-)
Now then-hands up anybody who has seen any adverts for petrol cars in the last few months-they’re still on forecourts, still as expensive as ever but still in demand.
But why aren’t they being advertised? Read more

I had one for a bit, it's fun. Perfect for downtown driving, not good for anything else (it's awesome, but doesn't have the ability to safely travel or do interstate stuff imo). But if you're going back and forth to work, it rules.
Anyone else watched it?

5th gear recharged is as it says focussed on EVs which are of little interest to the typical Clarkson May and Hammond audiences and me included.
Shame as the presenters are top class !...
Just read about fiat stopping production of the 500 e for 4 weeks due to lack of interest. Read more
The 500/500e relationship is a bit confusing.
The "original" 500 as introduced in 2007 did have a limited "500e" electric version just sold in the USA I think which was a rather cobbled together effort of just sticking a motor and battery in the same car instead of an engine and fuel tank. I don't think they made many....
Can anyone recommend a decent grease for a steering rack please?
It’s for my Audi A4 B8 with an electric rack, the boots still do their job it’s just the factory grease on the worm gear/inner tie rod could do with changing.

If its a rack and pinion, that involves metal to metal contact without roller bearing skid considerations, so a moly and/or EP containing grease might be appropriate, as sold for inside CV boots (not of course in Taiwan).
I ordered some Comma stuff from the sadly now defunct Pilrig Motors, though it was cheaper on’t nyet. Should be pretty widely available...
Hi everyone, new poster here, Ive been doing some research on the new euro 7 emission requirements and it appears that the EU published back in April that the new standards will be implemented in 30 months time for "new types of cars" and in 42 months time for "new cars". I have attached the link below. My question is what will this mean for all of our existing low emission zones like ULEZ? I was thinking of buying a used diesel as I do well over 20k miles annually but am concerned that as soon as euro 7 comes out ill have to pay to take it into cities like London and Birmingham. I usually keep my cars for a long time when I upgrade so am not too keen to have to change again in a few years time. I guess my question really boils down to how likely do you all think it is for ULEZ to upgraded to euro 7 and is it wise for me to buy a used diesel at this time? Your advice is greatly appreciated

Apart from making money, the ULEZ has made no difference to the atmosphere at all, but no one knows what he will do at any point in the future, though some rumours have said he will tax peoples driveways because they contribute toward flooding,
other daft ideas are in the works but no ideas so far what he will do, the most i****ic Mayor we have ever seen I have doubts you would get much info from his office as they have no clue themselves unless they come up with another madcap idea of ripping drivers off....
Hi, currently looking for an upgrade to my current car, a 2009 Ibiza.
Will be doing 30 minute motorway commutes and usual town driving a few times a week as well. My priorities are comfort and reliability, and budgeting £12-15k. Would want an automatic considering a lot of time is spent in rush hour traffic.... Read more
Probably a deal killer for me with 3rd gen Mazda 3 is lack of adaptive cruise control which would be useful for traffic
I know you have moved on to Toyotas but in your OP you said "Mazda 3 (2019+)" which is 4th Gen. I bought one in 2019 and all variants have what Mazda call Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) with automatics also having a Stop & Go function. I think that is what you mean by adaptive cruise control.

I had a good look in the engine bay. The external clutch cylinder has no damage and is not leaking. I guess that doesn't mean that its not going faulty inside though.
