Apologies if this post is in the wrong place as it's in part a technical question, but mostly its asking for advice on what to do with my car as I think it needs replacing.

I got my first car in 2017, an 07 Proton Gen2, bought off a friend for £300. I'm only just thinking I'm going to have to sell it and I'm gutted. The engine has started stalling sometimes when putting the clutch down after braking from 30+mph, (either to change gear or come to a stop). Often there is a hill involved when this happens.... Hello. I put this out again but now on the right place, My turbo just died so I had a replacement. And now the car won't start sometimes, when it starts it's just sit there and as fast I hit the gas pedal it dies straight away, I thought maybe the battery was a problem cuz that was broken to so I put a new one in, nothing happens, the injectors is fine, the dynamo is fine, I just had a replacement on the mass air filter or what it's called, so that's fine to. Is there someone that maybe had the same problem and have some ideas of what it can be? Or other people that have any ideas? I'm sorry for my English writing if there is any misstake, I'm not english.. :D thank you very much for feedback. Read more

Thanks for reply my post, I found the problem so the car is good as new now. Everything was connected. But since the turbo broke down, the intercooler was full of oil so I empty it and cleand it, :)

Hello there, is it easy to retro fit an auto dimming rear view mirror to the above car. Is the wiring hidden somewhere behind the existing mirror??

Thanks. Read more

Probably not . I doubt if there is any wiring for it hidden away .

spent £3750 on a car 6000 miles down the road and 10months my mot BILL is due AND £1300 the garage said to PASS CAR ,i looked back at the mot history and was suspect to see that mot have had advisories on every year and never been attended to or fixed to my knowledge yet the mot that come with the car had a pass with no advisories and my new mot came with the past history of all the years advisories £1300 bill all in one bundle ,all the MOT are done by the same MOT inspection garage who has covered its history who is situated next door (and why they didn't pick up at least one of advisories over the last 10 years when they did the MOT the previous advisories had been corrected as not showing on the mot I thought, is this a honest garage Read more

I really don't understand why you think the MOT history is suspicious?. If anything, it may be slightly suspicious (especially the rear disc) that there were no advisories at all on its last MOT, but that was a year and 7k miles after its previous one. But your comments that the MOT history is, essentially, proof of of your claim that you have been duped by the garage who sold you the car and/or the garage who did the MOT last year, doesn't hold any water.

Looking at the MOT history, apart from the current fail, the most (advisories) mentioned was 2016 (5 years ago!), and most of the text is taken up by saying that all 4 tyres are near the legal limit. Other than that, the deteriorated suspension bush is mentioned, as is a 'slightly' binding rear brake, so nothing serious. The year before that, 2015, the suspension bush is mentioned (for the first time) along with a slight exhaust leak and a loose heat shield. Again, nothing serious. ...

Great idea make the poor who can't afford electric vehicles pay, just price them off the road.
Those people that are on minimum wages or on zero hours contract also low paid carers that don't even get paid for traveling to and from patients. Yes there are exemptions but it is usually the poorest that fall through the loop hole.
Why are electric vehicles exempt when they too produce pollution, rubber from tyres and brake dust wear and tear on roads due the the increased weight of the vehicles. The free ride will have to end soon as the cost of road repairs will keep falling on a ever decreasing number of ICE vehicles and their drivers.

I am not against EV's but I think everyone should pay their share.

Why? free charging someone has to pay for the electric. As with the Diesel con the government can quickly change it's way of thinking and with every mum and dad being able to take little Jimmy to school in their pollution free EV the roads will become more and more gridlocked because don't forget the great increase in the number of cyclists!! has meant in my area main roads being reduced from two lanes down to one and footpaths being widened making roads narrower, which in my opinion has made it more dangerous for cyclists. Who the majority prefer to ride on the pavement for safety. Read more

Hi,

A local mechanic was doing a bit of work on my car. He had to disconnect the battery and now i have to enter a code for the radio to turn it on which i don`t have. ... Read more

You could try contacting your local Nissan dealer to see if they have any records of your car . Could be lucky . Failing that, the radio needs to be taken out to access the serial number . Not a 5 min job on these as the top of the dash needs to be removed. Code can be obtained from flea bay for less than £5

Hi there,
I bought a second hand Torneo Connect, 2008 model about 2 years ago. August last year, check engine light and loss of power so the car stopped. The garage I took it to said it was diagnosing errors in EGR valve and the second injector. We changed the EGR valve. 9 months later the same problem, I sent it back to the original garage, they said that a faulty butterfly valve to the EGR was stopping it from working properly, so changed that. Now 3 weeks later, same problem again, Check engine light, loss of power, car won´t run properly. This seems to happen when I´m on the motorways. But since then I have moved cities.
Took it to a different garage in my new city, they say two errors diagnosed: the same 2 as before: EGR valve and injector 2.
I told them the EGV valve was changed and then checked 3 weeks ago.
So they say, send it back to the garage (as it´s still under guarentee for the parts) or change the injector and see what happens.
An injector is an expensive job to do.
I definately trust this garage more than the last one.
The last one claimed they had checked it and it was working...
I don´t know what to think.
I seem to be spending a lot of money on this car this year and am not sure if its worth it.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

Cant be of specific help, since I have no personal experience of 21st century cars, and don't want any, but I do know that a lot of garages with experience of 21st century cars don't know what they are doing with them.

The tendency is to change whatever reports the error, though the fault may lie elsewhere....

I’m looking at buying a 2008 Polo 1.2 Petrol. 2 owners and 43,000 miles.

However, I’m unsure about the engine on these cars as I’ve never had a 1.2 before. I read the the cam belt gear is plastic and the there’s an issue with timing belt jumping teeth. Is it this particular model?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Read more

I had a Soda with the 3 cylinder 1.2 non turbo engine and it was okay, a bit thrummy though. A few years later I bought a 1.2tsi Polo later but that had the 4 cylinder engine, the issue with certain production runs of that motor was to do with the cam chains stretching due to poor machine tooling used in manufacturing the links. Plenty of info out there online. I had a new one for a couple of years and it drove very nicely, but I tend to stay with Japanese cars these days.

UPDATE! PROBLEM IS SORTED! was the bonnet sensor switch that was the issue! I disconnected it, no more issues, no lights or message on dash! When i opened bonnet before, it would still remain 'flush', it wouldn't pop up a little, which is what made me suspicious of it!
