The first EV charging station has opened in Braintree. Its aim is to fast charge EVs in about 20 mins while owners shop or use other facilities while they are waiting. The company operating the system also runs a solar farm some 40 miles away. Presumably they are selling electric to the grid and then buying back electric for its service station(s). I expect the company and its customers are laughing at the moment with the price of electric with no fuel duty or VAT How long can this be sustainable and what disadvantages to the tax payer and ICE motorists. EV owners with their own chargers will only use a station in an emergency or out of distance from home. Somehow I cannot see a demand for these stations other than in densely populated areas. Have you thought about egr cleaner spray? You periodically give a quick burst of aerosol into the air intake and the active ingredient circulates around the engine system. On my old Mondeo the egr was in an awkward spot and this seemed to work ok. It wasn't with much so I didn't mind to risk it. Each spray revs the engine a bit.
If you are thinking of doing the job yourself (workshop manual) this could be an easier thing to try first....
I don't know whether you can help or not, but my daughter's partner was picked up by the police because he was sitting at traffic lights in the wee small hours of the morning for an extremely long time, not moving at all. When they approached him he had an unopened bottle of spirits with him. They asked him to provide a breath test and he refused so was taken to the police station - he went perfectly willingly. So far, all pretty normal. The thing is, he had just found out that his 6 week old daughter (with his estranged previous partner) had just died of cot death and he was devastated, heartbroken and his mind was all over the place - to the extent that I believe the police had to arrange medical help for him at the station. My question is this: having refused a breath test (and there is no indication he had had a drink), is there any latitude for the courts to take the circumstances into account or will it be an automatic ban? Sorry, but my sympathies are with the mother of the baby girl, whose father is now someone else's 'partner'.
I spend a chunk of pretty much every working day dealing with the financial, i.e. benefit, consequences of separation; the mother may be the wronged one but usually it takes two to (not) tango. ...
Hello, l haven't quite made up my mind as yet, but there's a strong possibility l'll be changing my car in the early part of next year. Coming from an SUV (RAV - D4D) & having to accommodate a couple of medium sized dogs, it would be tempting to go similar However, l would like to return to an estate where in practice they have more room in the boot & are better to drive.
l'm tempted to spend a little & go premium with a C class Merc or a BMW 3 series (auto) but on the other hand the dogs are messy & perhaps this isn't the time. So l've decided to look for something around the 9/10 year old mark, spending around 3.5 - 4K, up to 5K if there's a good example. Mileage is only around 5/6K per year so petrol & manual to increase choice.... Read more
To be fair to the local main dealer, after l pointed out the information provided may be incorrect, they've come back to me. It was a misunderstanding from front of house to the service technician who thought the enquiry was indeed referring to a mark 3 Octavia from late 2013 that does (as confirmed by skidpan) have a belt.
The main dealer states ".......if the vehicle has a CAXA engine code and is a TSI then it will have a timing chain, this was produced only in Octavia 2 (11/08 - 06/13)"...
Great news, car prices have gone up so I can get a good price for mine, however since prices have gone up, the price of the car I want to replace it with, has *also* gone up so I'm no better off....................... Read more
This site has gone down hill under new ownership. Replies don't show or disappear ,and I've just clicked on the latest Grand Monday cars in the 'Classics' section and get taken directly to the heycars website.
Come on new owners, you can do better than this! Read more
Just for the record, I don't moderate the news comments: it would take too much time and fortunately no-one has asked me to. The only exception to that is if someone reports spam to the moderator's Email address.
Similarly, I wasn't accusing you of doing this in those cases. Oddly enough, one of my comments - in fact the entire thread - from one that mysteriously disappeared, has now miraculously returned....
A few weeks back some one posted that the Australians were going to introduce a special tax on electric vehicles. At that time I had heard nothing about that but it turned out to be right.

Expect VED to rise in the UK for ICEcars and then in a year or so a charge for Electric cars too.
No surprises there then!
And this is a Mercedes. What's wrong with dials?
I've just watched a video of the ID3 and the screen froze. Unable to reset instantly, the car had to be left locked for an hour.
Some of the comments suggest this is yet another VAG inherest design fault as it also happens on Audis....

The Tipo 1.6 E-Torq was an interesting one. A 110hp 1.6 n/a petrol with a 5-speed auto.
They only sold it here upto end of 2017, then quietly dropped. There's six on Autotrader now - 4 estates, 2 hatchs...

<< I agree with you on that why stand out and gather unwanted attention >>
A long time ago that was an argument against installing a burglar alarm. After a few years people had stopped taking any notice when one went off.
