I have just been followed by a new Peugeot 2008, and found the 8 strips of DRL in my rear view mirror absolutely ridiculous, talk about distracting..it really was the equivalent of someone driving with their main beam on behind you, I ended up dipping my rear view mirror, this is at 9.00am....and how anyone is supposed to make out the indicator without burning your retina is beyond me, the sidelights didnt even dip when the indicator was used. I reckon these lights will create more accidents than they prevent. I understand the logic of DRL, but it appears to be a free for all now....who can have the brightest front end of a car....Rant over. Read more

I think it's simpler than that.

People who buy new cars don't generally worry about what happens 6-10 years down the line. They are also the ones who determine the selection of cars available to buyers of used cars.

I might be interested, because I keep cars a long time, but even so I tend to prioritise reliability over cost/ease of repair.

I suppose the prat factor - perhaps risk factor would be a kinder term - comes in more with 'prestige' and 'performance' cars. As somebody who might keep a car for a reasonably long time, I avoid those, they are a liability almost without exception once out of warranty. Cost-wise the new buyers often do well - second-hand buyers can end up with a high-price used car that also has high running costs.

Ford abandoned the UK yet people are happy to buy them and help the with the total collapse of the UK car manufacturing industry by buying imported vehicles. I bought a vauxhall astra made in the UK great car with real MPG of over 65 mpg. Read more

£16.5k for a 95hp super mini from Skoda! No wonder sales are low!

Superminis should cost £10k. Mid sized Focuses etc should be about £14k and Softroaders £16k. Read more

The lease on my 335d is coming to an end. It’s been a phenomenal car. Masses of torque, a frugal engine and, satisfactory abilities all round. I am stuck on what to go for next. The torque was addictive but I also want something similarly economical. Any suggestions welcome. Budget would be £400 p/m with a £7,000 deposit. Thanks Read more

We live in Wales and the 335d made mince of all the steep slopes/gradients whilst being shy of 45mpg. I think about it and wonder whether the 320d would cut it for me? Guess I need to drive one. The Focus ST crossed my mind as an option too.

A couple of years ago, a friend of mine was torn between the 330d and 335d. He eventually went for the 330d as it was a fair bit cheaper, and has never felt short-changed. The torque curves of the two engines are not that far apart, the 330d's curve still looks like Table Mountain with 420+ft-lb from 1,500rpm to 3,500rpm, which makes it utterly effortless and still stupidly quick whenever you want.

Like you, he still gets nearly 50mpg on a run.

Our CMax 2.0L seems to have fuel issues. Firstly the fuel guage seems unreliable, secondly when putting the nozzle into the tank there is a startling release of pressure, and thirdly there seems to be a noticeable smell of fuel while driving. It runs well enough as far as I can tell, but something seems amiss. Any ideas would be gratefully received, thanks. Read more

It was the fuel spill pipe leaking apparently not the injector. Slightly cheaper to fix.

My wife bought a 2nd hand Toyota recently.
When driving it at low speed or in slow moving traffic it locks the brakes almost just by looking at the pedal.
I only have to press a little for them to come on fully I can't seem to be able to press and have the car slow down properly it's all or nothing. It is really annoying I depress the pedal by an inch and its OK but not enough to stop the car, then a few mm more and they 'slam' on like I've really 'stepped on the brakes' so a really jerky ride, and she hates it and makes her sick.
I've never had this before in any car I've owned and I've had a few in my life but none as new as this one Anyone got any ideas as to what it might be?
thanks Read more

It's worse when the farmers move about in rush hour (commute) time .. longer queues for instance. Or come face to face with a HGV and have to pass at walking pace because the road is not wide enough for anything else. If I cease WFH this month this is what I can look forwards to enjoying, especially on narrow twisty single carriageway A roads like the A251.

Am I the only one who finds unwanted noises so annoying?

My new Golf had a rattle in the Speedo area which the main dealer was unable to fix even after removing the dashboard and mounting it on rubber bushes.... Read more

It’s something I can live with in an old junker but in a half decent or new car it’ll bug me. It took a few attempts for the supplying dealer to sort a rattle from the roof console in our CRV but after that it was completely rattle free for the rest of the 4yrs we had it. My 10yr old Toyota hasn’t a single squeak or rattle and swmbo’s Polo is holding up well in this regard too with no irritants to report other than the noisy passenger seat whenever I’m driving.

Compared to previous manual 1.4TSI Octavia it is less economical - around 46mpg vs ~ 52 mpg - but this may jsut be an unavoidable "feature" of a TC auto box.

Don't TC boxes lose energy in stirring the ATF round inside, where a clutch-driven transmission doesn't ?

Hi experts...

I am looking for a nice little runaround to share with my Son and Daughter who are 25 and 19. We will do less than 5k miles a year. I checked the insurance on all the above cars and its fine where we live for all of us as I will be the main driver anyway and I'm mature ( haha )... Read more
