Hi, looking for some legal opinion about liability. I have CCTV footage of a well know commercial hire van hitting my parked vehicle and driving off without stopping or leaving details. Unfortunately I don't have a number plate, a police report has been filed and insurance company informed. However as no-one is injured the insurance companies don't seem interested and say without a licence plate they can't accept a claim.
However it's my belief that I've proven the incident took place but am in no position to find the license plate. The rental van owner however will ultimately identify the damage to their property when the van is returned and reclaim their losses from the driver or the third party company who hired the van whereas I am left bearing the costs of the incident,... Taken from another popular source of motoring news:
"Volkswagen hasn't paid compensation to any UK owners, claiming the cars weren't fitted with a 'defeat device' under UK law. Previous rulings to the contrary in other countries, such as the US, carry no weight in the UK, hence the need for the class action proceedings"
With the first step of UK legal action against VW now being successful, it's disappointing to see so many people in the UK still buying cars from VW, especially with their disappointing performance in a number of reliability / customer satisfaction surveys - in addition to Dieselgate and the 'fix' problems, who can forget the 1.5 TSi engine debacle.
If I wasn't put off buying a new car by now ludicrous car prices, I'd be looking to buy a model from a company that invests more in this country than VW, which is more important now than ever regarding Coronavirus impact and BREXIT. Read more

My dashcam (front and rear facing) is an essential piece of equipment in these days of so many thieving rats on our roads. But make sure you get a reliable one and not some cheap rubbish that will let you down when you need it.
I only hope these rats get what's coming to them via more severe sentencing because they don't care about putting you and your kids in potentially fatal danger just to extort a few quid. Read more
Just like the issues with UK benefits being available to those undeserving, this just points out the lack of gov't and industry to join up the dots. There's no reason any multiple claims should ever be allowed, but then, most of the UK police forces don't talk to each other - and neither do the regional CPSes
Remember - dashcams are illegal in many EU countries - often not mentioned on HJ
Boris should only offer incentives to vehicles manufactured in the UK and not to manufacturers like Ford who have deserted this country and Citroen, Mercedes,BMW etc that produce their EV cars in their own country. Why should the British taxpayer subsidies them, Even ICE vehicles produced in this country are now alot cleaner than old ICE vehicles that are on the road and don't forget ICE vehicles are going to be with us for quite a few years yet. Unless EV manufacturing is started in the UK soon, we will look forward to losing thousands of jobs as in 2035 ( if not sooner if the Green lobby have their way) all ICE vehicle factories will shut.. The UK government had a chance with Tesla for a Gigafactory here but blew it. Read more

This has even less chance of hitting the market than Dyson's magic disappearing electric car. There are so many clues that this is smoke and mirrors it's funny
No auto industry experience
"Advised by Magna" (at a cost they will advise anyone). Magna make the G-Wagen. Check the price of that with all development paid for and established components
No factory - Wales! No - maybe France... we don't know.. any gov't grants for us?
No vehicle (all the shots are computer generated). Rolling chassis shows they are about five years from a vehicle.
Panhard rod? That's actually a step backwards - why not portal axles - that would be an improvement
Ridiculous timeframe promises. Check out how long it takes Tesla to build a working production line - and remember - electric cars are dead simple by comparison
BMW powertrain/management electronics alone will probably cost more than the suggested "entry price" and will likely not meet US emissions (so forget that market). Do you think BMW will do all the dev work on a US-spec six-pot diesel just for Ineos? For free?
UK petrol/diesel market ends in ten years (Europe will not be far behind)
Delorean ring a bell? Maybe they can partner with the "other Coke"
If this ever hits the road, it will be in five years, made in some eastern Euro plant and be another £100K ty for rich boys
I have been following these on the main page as they are frequently more interesting than those on the forum. This one has been posted today and I am wondering how too much oil would affect the brakes or caused the car to over rev?
A mechanic said he poured in three litres of engine oil - which was too much and the car over revved. Now brakes won't work. He said he poured in too much as the oil measuring case was broken and not reading correctly. Should a mechanic know this before he pours in too much oil? Read more
and then a quarter of a litre over each brake disc ...
You don't pour oil over a brake disc ......
Both my cigarette/power sockets have had coins dropped in them, and have stopped working. I can't seem to find the fuse numbers for them. I did find something online, and it said it was fuse 70 and 72. I checked these, but they look ok. They are also rated at 7.5 Amp, although the socket says max 15 Amp. I don't think these locations are correct.
Anyone know what the location is? I have also checked the manual to no avail. Read more
Solved - I have since found a proper diagram online.
Thanks...

I found my insurance went down when I informed them I’d changed jobs from an engineering role to bus driving.
Driving round with my windows down because my air con repair will cost twice as much as the car is worth I noticed how many cars are in the same position.

From my experience, I would say since the introduction of the new gas, around 5 years ago, reliability in car ac systems had gone down the pan . I’ve seen cars barely 3 years old with non functioning ac . My neighbour has a 2 year old BMW , where the ac packed up in May .
Here in Taiwan anyway. IIRC I bought this (just emptied) bottle at RT-Mart. Supermarkets don’t sell brake fluid any more AFAIK, and its a bit surprising they ever did, since there is no Taiwanese DIY.
