Loud, ticking noise when I start the engine in mornings, worse when i press gas pedal, and reverse out of drive, usually gone by the time I get to the end of the road.
Been present for past 14 months, been to VW dealer car purchased from twice, first said nothing wrong, then when i booked in for 2nd review said it was a loose fuel pump cable hitting of the inside panel which they secured.
Service manager came out with me and said the noise was 'normal' but by this time car not cold, (I had driven to garage.)
Oil always kept within specified limits and with recommended oil as well.
Car is due back in for servicing next week, I have arranged for it go in day before so it is cold and I will be there when they start it.
Appreciate noises difficult to diagnose , but beinning to feel i am being fobbed off as a female driver!
Someone has suggested it may be hydraulic tappets , dealer did not think so ....any advice would be great thanks!
Obviously keen to get this resolved while car still under warranty. Read more
I'd like to buy something special, something worth preserving, but regularly trades for ~£1,000 (with a valid MOT).
I just need some more ideas, i recently did some refreshing of components on a BMW E38 728i and i'm in love with BMW engineering, but i'd like some more ideas for what to tackle next.
I've come up with the following list of cars to lookout for locally, but i'd like to widen the net a bit. Luxury or sports types seem to be the order of the day...
Luxury:
BMW E32 7 Series
Range Rover Classic
Jaguar XJ
Sports:
Nissan 300 zx

Got the FocuST yesterday, 3 dr ST-2, well equipped with xenons, heated screen decent MP3 compatible audio, keyless etc.
Mid 2007 though almost as new having had some cosmetic work done by the lease company including alloys refurbed and fitted with four new Michelin Pilot Sport 225/40-18 tyres. Interior immaculate, back seats look like they have never been used, likewise the boot. Very comfortable Recaro front seats, nice chunky leather steering wheel, variable steering assistance programmable through the trip computer, Comfort, Standard and Sport.
Great ride/handling combo despite 40 section tyres, firm though compliant, lovely burbly exhaust note and muted induction roar under acceleration, pulls cleanly from 1000 rpm, feel very quick though havent stretched it by any means.
Will update. Read more
I have the baby version of this engine in my S60, which is about 40 bhp down on your ST, cheddar, and after nearly two years and 25k, I am still not bored with the noise it makes. When you have it on wide opn throttle, the sound as it climbs past 4000 RPM is wonderful. I daresay Ford use a throatier exhaust than Volvo too. The Volvo in-line five is a lovely piece of kit IMHO.

Nitrous Oxide boost is a nice touch.
It's probably for the driver rather than the chair.
Nitrous oxide can kill in large doses, and has very variable effects in smaller ones. The demented cavorting and wild laughter it induced in the young Humphrey Davy among others don't always occur.
I had two impacted wisdom teeth extracted under it in the early sixties, at the Dental School in Leicester Square. It didn't make me laugh but when I came round I told the staff I had been having lovely dreams which I had already forgotten. I had a headache too.
Their replies were so sarcastic that I concluded I had perhaps been lashing out and screaming obscenities while they were gouging the tusks out with frightful gleaming corkscrews. But I didn't blame myself.
once driving the car till it gets hot, i can drop the clutch and te revs will drop to about a mill above the 0rpm, it has stalled on me before and after its dropped in revvs it will missfire heavily, i have suffered with it missfiring underload also however i have replaced the maf and is driving very well at the minute. i have also checked the timing chain tensioner and its extended by 15mm, i have changed coil packs, o2 sensor pre cat, checked valve clearences, all ok. possible next step ? ICV ? EGR ? to be cleaned ? fuel regualtor ? please help. Read more
anyidea's ? car seems to be fine on cold but as soon as warm, then relying on sensors it will mess about, will happen more if i give it a hard run.
Reading other threads about scrappage etc got me thinking.
My first car was a 1959 Ford Popular. Side valve engine, 3-speed box, dodgy brakes, poor performance, inadequate heater, no radio, vacuum wipers. And it went to the scrapyard with about 70,000 miles on it having already had an engine change.
Move forward about 40 years. I now have a 1999 Focus. Decent engine, 5-speed box, decent brakes, more than adequate performance, aircon, CD player and wipers that don't slow down on hills. Hope to run it to 100,000+ with no problems.
So my car now is a world away from that Popular, but is still ten years old.
Which developments in the last ten years am I really missing, and are they worth it?

Our 1993 106 lacks:
Power steering - that is a real pia when parking
Electric windows: not needed.
ABS - never goes above 50mph
Airbags - no crashes so far touch wood but 17 years is just starting.
CD player - don't listen to anything in car
SatNav: never go further than 10 miles in it.
Common rail - still does 50mpg on urban cycle.
Turbo and EGR valve: pulls from 1000rpm although power is very limited.
Central locking : key works fine.
The only thing I would want is power steering.
How can i get the face lift mk7 Fiesta lights to fit on my mk 6 the light fits in the area and holes fine but the wiring blocks are different any suggestions on how to get them to match up, or some how wire them up to work.
