hi all,am a new user to this site.Anyone help me on the following vehicle:VAUXHALL ASTRA 1.3 cdti estate.Have been offered a superb deal on line for this, which will be a replacement taxi for my failing OCTAVIA with 324000 on the clock.Dont want another Skoda, based on the Isle of MAN,local dealership now closed,so have to stick to main stream models that i can get back up from.Question here is does anyone out there know if this astra has A Diesel Particulate FILTER & B Dual Mass FLYWHEEL. Hopefully youll understand my concerns regards these expensive replacement parts & my concerns, have to keep the costs down.Further to this, any serious owners like to recommend a replacement vehicle, keep my thoughts above in mind,& the dealerships i have avail are FORD,VAUXHALL,ALL THE FRENCH CRAP,NISSAN,TOYOTA,HONDA,VW (VW & SEAT ONLY) thats it really.Would happilly have another Skoda but no dealership on the rock, current VAG GROUP dealership are crap, kept some of my colleagues of road in excess of 2 weeks, means no wages 4 us!!!!!!!

The battery on my Honda Civic has been playing up and needs replacement. On searching on the internet there are different batteries available like Lead Acetate battery (45 Ah) from Halfords (£59.99) who fit it as well for a nominal fee of £4.99 or others avalable online like Alphaline for £47 with a power of 45 Ah or Varta Battery with 45 Ah power for £52 or Numax for £45 with 35 Ah
I do not know which one to buy and how easy or difficult it is to fit a battery by yourself.

My car is a Titanium X estate with sport appearance pack. I have got bad tyre wear on the front o/s wheel. A tyre specialist garage checked the tracking, but informed me that they did not have the correct settings available for my particular model. They then said they should be the same as a previous model. After checking they said all four wheels were out of alignment. I did not want to pay £48 for possibly wrong setting adjustments especially as a new tyre is approx £180.
Any advice would be appreciated. Read more
if you only have one tyre tracking off then its a suspension problem
consider
a ball joint
a track rod end
for starters
get a decent place to jack the car up looking for play
seems to me if specialist tyre garage cant track a mondeo up and or tell you what your problem is then you would be advised to keep away from them

Were they genuine Volvo parts? If so that's probably about right. a pair of good quality pattern arms from a reputable online supplier would be a good £100 cheaper for example: http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=2_535&products_id=3216
I put a set of non-volvo bushs on my S60 15 months (9,000 miles) ago and they have just failed. Google scantech who supply many of these parts and you will see thier guarantee is 3 years or 5,000 km !! Which shows you how confident the people who make them are of the quality ... Not Much. ...
Just received an email and thought it was a joke but a quick t'internet search turned them up as a Russian Hummer type outfit (which has been around a lot longer - since 1909 apparently)
What really grabbed my attention was the choice of material used for the interior. If you think kangaroo skin for football boots is OTT try Whale undercarriage for the interior

When you open the door of a Bentley you get the wonderful, rich aroma of leather, can't help think this car is not going to be like a Bentley.

6 months ago i traded in my trusty Citroen Picasso for a new Kia Cee'd.
Whilst the Cee'd has turned out to be a very good car, now it's dark by the time i get home, i have noticed that there were 2 small, but useful features on the Picasso that are not on the Cee'd which i miss. These are the interior light coming on when you remove the key from the ignition, which was great for locating mobile phone, wallet, house keys etc & "follow me home" headlamps, which was really useful for finding the key hole on the front door. only vauxhall can build a car where if you have a door open you cant turn off the interior light

More cone related misery this morning......Erin Dors and I had business to be in Hyde this morning. Leaving, I decided on the M57 then onto the M60 and home.
Top of the slip road the sign was telling me 50mph but you can't see the motorway from this slip and once you're committed you can't do nowt about it !
Carriageway blocked...standing traffic in lanes 2 and 3. Joined traffic in lane one and bimbled along for a mile or so until we saw a sign telling us that lane 1 was closed further on.
Another half mile and people were getting out of ! into 2...800 yds before the cones.....first warning of restriction. Minimal movement in 2 and 3 from then on, then saw the reason, slip road coming in from left and lane 3 both merging into lane 2. So, effectively, at this point 4 lanes had become 1 ! A few hundred yards later the traffic lights were adding to the melee.
Of course, during all of this there was no sign of any roadworks or reasons for the lane closure. It took us an hour to do about 2 1/2 miles !
To add insult, during this crawl, the overhead information boards were telling everyone that there were delays ahead.......between junction 9 and the M6 on the M61........about 40 miles away !!
I wonder how much that little lot cost in pollution, lost business, flights, etc. There must be a reason, but I can't figure it !

All part of the policy to drive the private motorist off the road, so our inadequate roads can cope with the commercial traffic. Much cheaper than adequate roads matched to our population.

Loud, ticking noise when I start the engine in mornings, worse when i press gas pedal, and reverse out of drive, usually gone by the time I get to the end of the road.
Been present for past 14 months, been to VW dealer car purchased from twice, first said nothing wrong, then when i booked in for 2nd review said it was a loose fuel pump cable hitting of the inside panel which they secured.
Service manager came out with me and said the noise was 'normal' but by this time car not cold, (I had driven to garage.)
Oil always kept within specified limits and with recommended oil as well.
Car is due back in for servicing next week, I have arranged for it go in day before so it is cold and I will be there when they start it.
Appreciate noises difficult to diagnose , but beinning to feel i am being fobbed off as a female driver!
Someone has suggested it may be hydraulic tappets , dealer did not think so ....any advice would be great thanks!
Obviously keen to get this resolved while car still under warranty. Read more

You say no to French cars, but my Citroen Xsara was very reliable (3 yrs 2nd hand and did 60,000 on top of the 40,000 already on the clock). My Megan has covered close to 50k in 25 months and nothing gone wrong at all, with 18k servicing intervals.
