Having problems starting my zefi. initial start when cold is slow and takes a long time of cranking before start up with resulting clouds of smoke. Have changed glow plugs and injector seals but still the same. When warm starts easily. Anybody got an idea of what i can try next?

Hi,

I have found a dealer who can supply me a new metallic paint CRV ES diesel for £17,600 delivered to my door.

The closest I have come to this used is a 2008 ES diesel, again metallic, with 11K on the clock for a forecourt asking price of 16K. I haven't as yet haggled with the dealer as merely browsed the forecourt over the weekend.

I probably will pay cash for either, although the new model has the potential for the 0% deal from Honda over 2 years, 10K down and then remainder over 2 years.

So the option appears to be new for 17.5K or a 12 month old used with 10K on the clock for... well, what should my target price be for this car?

Thanks,

T.

Of course of course. Far better to have the clutch slipped at 4 000rpm for
a couple of minutes while they drive it up onto the trailer...
(Don't worry tawse I'm sure they will winch it up gently with a velvet rope
really).
:o}

Do not do this to me :-)

I clearly remember 10 years ago sitting down and thinking that I had nothing to worry about in life. In fact, the only thing I had to worry about was that I had nothing to worry about... if you see what I mean.

...in Germany. Selling Corsas and Polos for 25% off.

A spokesman for the automotive industry there said:

"...previous efforts to sell cars online and through supermarkets have faltered...people don't want to buy high-value products from a discount grocery store...Germans like to go to the dealership"

In the current climate could it work in UK? Read more

Can't picture VW wearing this in the UK. It's a premium brand here don't forget
unlike in Germany where it's run-of-the-mill. Can't have a premium brand associated with a "cheapo"
retailer I imagine the marketing folk would have a coronary at the thought of such
dilution of the brand.

Sainsbury's then. You'd get Nectar points as well! ;-)

Interesting law in the US for new cars - four chances to fix by the dealer and then you get your money back. Read more

as far as i can see, it is about as precise as you could ever get, and as a trader I would welcome it for new cars.

For 2nd hand though the perennial problems happen again !

The debate's current, Martin, but the incident happened about 5 years ago.

It's that insurance renewal time of year again, and I've had a few quotations - both via broker and online.

One question usually aked is for the vehicle purchase price. Sounds fair enough, but what are the implications for both quote and any future payout? Consider the following situations:

1) I win the vehicle in "Tom Champagne"'s Reader's Digest Prize Draw or somesuch. Purchase price zero....

2) The car is inherited or gifted from a relative for a nominal £1....

3) My superior bargaining skills get the car for a knock-down never-to-be-repeated price - say 50% of its market value.....

4) The car is purchased as an ex-lease company car at its written-down value.....

If, in all cases, a payout is based on market value at the time of claim, what's the point of asking for the purchase price?

You can claim only up to the value that you nominate. I guess, in effect, you have taken a voluntary excess of 50% in the example above.

Heard a tale this weekend about a driver receiving a fixed £30 penalty for an incorrect rear reg plate on his Rover 75. It is one of those ' half shell " shaped ones. Although the lettering is correct size and spaced correctly and the plate inc makers details, kite mark, it seems that only the regulation oblong or square plates are legal. Off the top of my head, some of the S type Jags I have seen have had a plate shaped to fit the plate mounting area on the back, ie sort of oval.
Looks like these style of plates are relegated to show plates only now. Read more

A lot of Land Rovers have square plates with two rows. Have seen Disco's stopped
at ANPR check points.

could that be because the cameras didnt read them, so the police pulled them 'just in case'?

Hey all,

I've been looking for a used Mondeo TDCi on Auto Trader for a wee while. There are some good ones out there if you're prepared to travel. Budget for me is 2-3k, which should get me an 02-03 Zetec or Ghia 2.0TDCi 130BHP, with maybe 100k and FSH.

But...

I've noticed a trend emerging on AT, whereby the "PS" sticker has been yanked from the bonnet striker panel, rendering it tricky to tell whether its a 115 or 130. And I've even seen some where a photo of the engine bay reveals a TD engine cover (it has a red "DI" sticker), though the car has been advertised as a TDCi.

Does anyone know a definitive way to tell if a Mondy is a TDCI or not- and if so, can the power output be verified? I'm guessing that an insurer may have this on file?

Also- are the TD engines really so far behind the TDCis? In terms of ability, refinement, etc.

I'd like to think the original poster doesn't still have the problem after three years - but that's still helpful advice for anyone needing that sort of information. Thanks. (I appreciate you were following on from a self-publicist whose post I've hidden!)
