Having a real nightmare.
I have just replaced the crank speed sensor, which in itself was an ordeal and in the process of running the car warm the core plug/s have gone. Does anyone know if I can replace with the head off only, or is it an engine out job. Any help appreciated.

Two rovers - still running (albeit with one or two problems) some 20 times longer than the warranty period.

I had a Montego 1.6 in 1986 for a company car. Apart from the front discs warping which cracked the windscreen, undid my watch and dropped the mirror on the floor during heavy braking, it was completely reliable and did 40+ mpg on the motorway. The discs were changed under warranty. It was changed for a Vauxhall Belmont (not my choice) after 60K comfortable miles.

Mazda Owner

Hi All,

On my 2006-year Mazda3 everytime I apply the brakes a noise is heard in the cabin.

It's not a very loud noise by any means but certainly sounds like two surfaces rubbing together - what brakes do I suppose - but I've never witnessed this noise inside the cabin. The noise never fades despite doing lots of stop-start driving in town.

Could the allignment of the pads and discs be wrong?

Any suggestions most welcome! I cannot easily get to a Mazda delear as my local Mazda dealer unexpectedly went out of business.

DD - Thanks for your comments.

I haven't checked the condition of the pads bearing in mind the car's age (October 2006) and having only covered 13.5K. Although I have seen comments about the excessive amount of brake dust produced by the Mazda3 brakes.

The noise has certainly become very apparent during this cold snap.

Just been out to look at a car for MIL. A 15 month old car priced cheap, one lady owner, 4000 miles, and from looking around the car and a quick ride in it looked fine.

However, the V5 had a different name and address (address in a town 40 miles away) to that of the person selling, "It's my aunties, and she is out of the country for a few weeks, but asked me to sell her car, she will sign the V5 when she comes back", no written confirmation of this, and the V5 also has a taxation class of Disabled.

If the guy was honest, he seemed to be doing everything possible to give the opposite impression. Read more

On my daughters Polo the speedo has always overread by a fair amount (at least 10%) since we bought it last year. Today it has got worse and when you turn off the engine the speedo stays on about 18mph. Any ideas please. Read more

Yet again the HJ crew have the answer, thank you. Just had time to get it all apart and back together this morning before my daughter had to head back to Uni.

Mr Haynes said you have to take the steering wheel (airbag too, would have been a bit of a pain) off to get to a couple of the dash screws, fortunately this was not the case although it was a bit awkward.

Thanks again.

Hi, I'm new to this site, but own a 99 Mondeo and have had problem with the Central Locking myself. The best way of resolving issues with Mondeo Central Locking is firstly to determine whether it's the remote or the Central Locking unit. Basically check the battery in the remote and replace if necessary. If the remote battery is good and the system partly works then the cure that I use is to simply disconnect the battery and leave it for 30 seconds or so and then reconnect it. If you have a KEYCODE radio, then this will lose it's code, so ensure you have the correct code. If you dont have the code then the best way is to disconnect the Central Locking control unit which is located behind the drivers side lower dash liner. It has 2 multi-way plugs which can be a little difficult to remove until you locate the release catch moulded into the plug. Disconnect it and leave it for 30 seconds (which allows the circuit power to discharge) reconnect and all will be restored to factory settings.

The factory settings are as follows; Press lock button once to single lock the doors, press again to double lock and turn on the alarm/immobiliser. Press unlock once to unlock the drivers door only & turn off the immobiliser, press again to unlock the remaining doors.

There is a way to make the unit unlock all the doors with a single press, but I have never been able to make this work.

Hope this helps all who suffer from this problem. Read more

Get the codes read, preferably with VAG-Com. Prone to injector/wiring faults. Check also brake lights are working. Failed brakelight switch can throw EPC fault light.

I have a 53 mondeo ghia which has electric door mirrors with powerfold and puddle lamps. On new years day some drunken buffoon decided it would be a good idea to break the offside mirror off. Since then obviously the passenger has stop working and so has the interior lights which was expected as its prob blown a few fuses. The one thing i cant work out is that my hazards start flashing a few seconds after the car has been locked and everytime the ignition is cycled my gauges do full sweep and the trip miles, mpg, etc reset themselves to zero! anyone have any ideas on this would be much appreciated.
