Falkirk Bairn

A classic Bugatti car, which gathered dust in a Tyneside garage for almost 50 years, could fetch up to £3m when it goes under the hammer.

Relatives of reclusive Newcastle doctor Harold Carr found the 1937 Type 57S Atalante in a garage after he died.

Now the classic car, thought to be one of just 17 built, is to be sold by Bonhams in Paris next month.

It was originally owned by Earl Howe - first president of the British Racing Drivers' Club.

Dr Carr, a former army surgeon, left the contents of a lock-up garage to his family when he died in 2007.

An acquaintance aquired an Elva in similar circumstances.

They were renting a lock-up garage for some considerable time, and were curious about the neighbouring one. It was obviously never opened, so they peered inside and saw the Elva.

I'm vague about circumstances, but IIRC the landlord of the neighbouring garage was owed a considerable sum and accepted a settlement for its' contents. Legal entitlement followed.

It changed hands for a pittance due to its' corrosion. the next owner spent almost as much as became its'worth on its' restoration!

Does the filter have a priming pump? if so pump it and crack open bleed screw till fuel comes out with no air.

Then lock off and pump it to fuel pump and bleed that the same way, then crack open all the fuel injectors and crank over the engine for a few secs.

A bit messy but lock them all up it should start.

If no priming pump, fill fuel filter with new clean diesel and crank over engine and bleed pump then injectors like above.

Grab the heater knob and pull. If it just slides off in your hand easy, the plastic has probably split down the shaft and does not grip the spindle that drivers the flap control.

Easy fix, get about a foot of cotten thread. Wrap around the split shaft, then soak superglue into the thread. Allow to dry and refit.

Any owners of said model care to comment on their purchases as to good or bad points please. Diesel preferred.

Hi Folks
Could anybody tell me what colour and the location of the heating / ventilation relay. The motor is not working and I want to short out the relay. There are 6 relays and one spare. I am wondering if this is where the relay should be and someone has already messed about with it. Thanks for your time Read more

Thanks to all of you that reported the freeloader. He will be made aware that he can't advertise for nothing here. May the new year not lead to any kerbed alloys !

With the odd `nick` or two repeatedly chiming negative - like cane toads in a fruit salad - I thought a happy only thread on our next planned trips might be a good start to the New Year.

Again, we will be going across at Dover in the car - mid March - and again considering cruising down to Turin/Susa/Aosta areas.

Any further advice and encouragement appreciated - worried its too far - am becoming a chicken ;)

How about your own plans?

All the best in the New Year!
