hello there, having trouble again, I've owned my car for a year now but for the last six months she's been nothing but trouble!!, anyway, the problem is the oil and the coolant keeps mixing, I've bought three head gaskets now but every time i put the oil in and the coolant leave it over night oil keeps appearing at the bottom left corner, I've done everything else by the book, no-one that's had a look can tell me what's going on, I've taken the head off again, the coolant holes are all coolant but i cant figure out how the oil goes down to the sump, from what I've gathered all the holes on the cylinder block are full of coolant, and the holes on the cylinder head from the valves go into holes into the cylinder block, which is connected to some coolant holes. can anyone help???, i need the car on the go asap, is the cylinder head wrong, and have i bought a heap??
any help would be great!!!

thats good news then...im happy to buy a cheap but reasonble oil and change it often

i notice alot of other brands have dropped to 4ltr , so its even more expensive if you need a drop of top up inbetween services

any suggestions will be appreciated thanks. Read more

ive never had it happen to me but what is the precedure if you fill up with petrol and you go to pay for it but realise you forgot to put your wallet in your back pocket? has any one had it happen ? is there a form to fill in? or do you just have a word with the chap at the till and explain your dilemma? i suppose its one way of getting your petrol up front if your waiting for your pay cheque to clear if you know what i mean Read more

done this twice so far - once as an 18 year old in Liverpool and was asked to leave everything I had in my pockets and my watch as security, it included my work ID so they were fairly safe. Second time in my thirties in Dunfermline, I didn't recognise the cashier but she just said ' if you promise to be back with the money within the hour off you go' - I guess I must have an honest face.....

How does a novice go about scoping the dwell on his coil packs? I need to calculate both the running and cranking dwell for my car to properly configure the ECU. My friend has a bosch diagnostics terminal (smallish hand held green box of tricks that plugs into most cars about the size of a closed newspaper), this has a scope function and has 2 leads that plug in for the 'multimeter' functions it does. Guessing one is live and the other is negative. But no idea where to stick the wires etc. Read more

Ok my first post here I have been a lurker for a wee whils so Hi!

We have a Saab 95 estate which I really like it is very comfortable and spacious but we are only getting 25mpg from it and the petrol cost is killing our finances. So we have decided to sell it and get something else. We have two small children so need something with a decent amount of space and something which will give us good fuel economy. The saab has lots of extras like AC, air con etc preferably I would like similar extras.

many thanks Read more

If you are like me and hate getting information off the Web by flicking from page to page, backwards and forwards and would rather read from a booklet, can I recommend a little comprehensive book on the the above subject matter that you can pick up from your Post office.

I remember servicing a Hillman Minx a while back, the car drove in ok and had no reported problems. For some reason I had a peek in the bell housing and decided that the carbon ring thrust bearing looked a bit thin, and eased the release arm back a bit for a better look. Half a dozen bits of carbon fell out of the carrier ring - it had all been held together by the slight constant pressure.
The customer agreed to pay for the cost of parts, so he got a worn out clutch replaced for free.

I know there are lots of threads on this subject but so far I can`t find them. I need a replacement key for an Astra 1.6 8v 2002. Spare key works no problem. Batteries to both keys were replaced 1 month ago. Do I have to leave car at the dealer or just take in both keys. Is main dealer the best option ( I do have a friend that works for the main dealer. Its only just happened so have not had a chance to ask them). Read more
