How does a novice go about scoping the dwell on his coil packs? I need to calculate both the running and cranking dwell for my car to properly configure the ECU. My friend has a bosch diagnostics terminal (smallish hand held green box of tricks that plugs into most cars about the size of a closed newspaper), this has a scope function and has 2 leads that plug in for the 'multimeter' functions it does. Guessing one is live and the other is negative. But no idea where to stick the wires etc. Read more
Ok my first post here I have been a lurker for a wee whils so Hi!
We have a Saab 95 estate which I really like it is very comfortable and spacious but we are only getting 25mpg from it and the petrol cost is killing our finances. So we have decided to sell it and get something else. We have two small children so need something with a decent amount of space and something which will give us good fuel economy. The saab has lots of extras like AC, air con etc preferably I would like similar extras.
many thanks Read more
If you are like me and hate getting information off the Web by flicking from page to page, backwards and forwards and would rather read from a booklet, can I recommend a little comprehensive book on the the above subject matter that you can pick up from your Post office.

I remember servicing a Hillman Minx a while back, the car drove in ok and had no reported problems. For some reason I had a peek in the bell housing and decided that the carbon ring thrust bearing looked a bit thin, and eased the release arm back a bit for a better look. Half a dozen bits of carbon fell out of the carrier ring - it had all been held together by the slight constant pressure.
The customer agreed to pay for the cost of parts, so he got a worn out clutch replaced for free.
I know there are lots of threads on this subject but so far I can`t find them. I need a replacement key for an Astra 1.6 8v 2002. Spare key works no problem. Batteries to both keys were replaced 1 month ago. Do I have to leave car at the dealer or just take in both keys. Is main dealer the best option ( I do have a friend that works for the main dealer. Its only just happened so have not had a chance to ask them). Read more
Many thanks. Re-syncronising worked 1st time.
I'm being tempted to buy a Ford Fusion Zetec 1.6HDi and wonder what experience people might have of it. There's comment in road tests about the noise level, for example. What about fuel economy?
I thought the driver's seat was a bit small and lacked thigh support.... Anyone done more than 50K in one and if so, do they last well? They're doing good offers on a special edition Pursuit version at the moment, anyone got one, or seen any road tests of it?
Grateful for your insights...

I've always been wary of women wearing religious headgear, as it is damn obviousl that their peripheral vision is shot.
These days I notice more and more Yoof wearing "hoodies" while driving - and those things have got cowls like the Grim Reaper's!
All-round vision must be reduced by 60%...

Doesn't seem to harm F1 drivers who lie flat on their backs staring up at
the sky wearing helmets HANS systems and high cockpit walls. Then they hit the apexes
with mm precision.
They also hit team mates to the side of them that they dont see.

Newspaper Report
"A COLLEGE principal who was made an MBE for her services to the police was yesterday found guilty of refusing to give a roadside breath test.
She had enjoyed "a large glass of wine" during a business meeting at a Stirling hotel before her Volkswagen Golf was pulled over on the evening of 6 March.
She was fined £200 and had four penalty points added to her driving licence."
Why no Ban?
The question that many would ask is why not banned? According to reports the sample at the Police Station was 31 (limit 35) - Did the 31 include back tracking the reading as obviously it takes time to go from the roadside to Police HQ & be tested?
Cynic might say:
If it is easy to get round not providing a roadside breath test then she could start courses @ her colleges and charge megabucks.

A colleague's brother was out for a few jars about a year ago when noticed a group of young asian lads wobble out of the pub and start to fumble over getting into their car. He went out and argued with them about driving, even to the point of standing in front of the car and refusing to move. A couple of police officers on watch in the centre came over to ask what the fuss was about, he told them, and they requested that the driver take a breathalyser test. He (and then all of his passengers) told the officer that it was against their religion and caused quite a fuss. They decided to just let them go even though it was clear that they were incapable of driving safely.
My colleague's brother remonstrated with them (quite loudly) and was arrested for his troubles and let off the next day with a warning.
can any1 give me or tell me where i can get any wiring diagrams for my 2000 mv6
my abs/tc light is on and the speedo don't work, also I've been told that the headlight motor is controlled by this unit too as there isn't an adjuster inside the car is this true but i have another unit that can be put in but just in case its not that when fitted i want to know where the wires that lead off it go to increase 1 is damaged and needs fixing.
the vauxhall dealers are too expensive and think that they know everything where i live.
its an x traffic car so I'm wondering ,that when they took the bits they remove out they might have cut something by mistake?

Yeah, sorry for ambiguous sentence, I was thinking about the MID rather than the levelling system itself. Apropos of nothing , but there's an ex police MV6 where I work which is the only Omega estate I've ever seen without roof bars.
Obviously as this is an ongoing matter for the police cant discuss too much, but the details so far are that a car swerved onto the pavement and hit the pram with a 2 month old baby in. Baby died later. Mother had minor physical injuries.
Snip - PG
The driver has stated his jeans got caught in the pedals.
Only reason i mention it is because my baby is almost 2 months old and wifey takes him out a lot in his pram. It hits home a bit more. Not sure how i would cope. Cant imagine how the driver must be feeling.
Terrible news.
