hello,
wondering if anyone has any idea, i have a T reg rover 211, 102000 on the clock, just recently had the head gasket done and since then the car has been juddering when i put it into 2nd and 3rd gear, only for a few seconds and only when the engine is warm, have also noticed when the car is sat idling (only when warm again) have a nice smooth engine noise then every few seconds juddering again, but have noticed if i put my foot on the accelerator to bring it just above 1000 revs the juddering stops. I hope that makes sense, and thanks in advance for any replies Read more
Sorry, I forgot to mention, its also possible its a valve problem, not uncommon on these!

As opposed to manual one? (on the new Grand Vitara 3dr)
Does it come on automatically without the driver being able to control it? How does that work? Read more
The elderly R12 aircon systems fitted to various elderly Granadas I have enjoyed at various times during my long and tedious motoring career could produce 0'C at the vents, frostbite of the fingers was a possibility. The aircon systems in most modern cars appear to struggle in ambient 30'C plus.
Come back R12, a few Kiwi sheep with skin problems is a small price to pay. Does this post need a smiley thing? No. I think not.
Hi,
Been looking for a new mid-mpv, at my price range I can get a nearly new 1.6 or 1.8 Zafira or a bit older diesel, pretty much the same situation on the other cars I have looked at.
I am keen to get as fuel efficient car as I can, my current Picasso gives around 35 mpg on longer trips but reading some reviews it seems that in some cases 1.8 or 2.0 cars can get better fuel efficiency and in some cases better than their equivalent 1.6. Also my Picasso (1.6) seems a little underpowered and I am concerned that the others will be the same (or worse as they will be bigger/heavier) so perhaps I need a bigger engine model.
So does a bigger engine really mean worse economy, or because there is more power there is less need to thrash it and therefore overall economy is about the same (or better)?
Cheers,
Peter Read more
If its the zafira your looking at I can tell you hand on heart and experience a planty that the 2.0 is every bit as efficient as the 1.6 and in pretty much every circumstance is better. I used to drive taxis made up of a fleet of zafiras with all types from 1.6 basic models to the 2.0 higher spec ones (not the gsi) also drove the td.
I didnt quite like the derv variety though, something didnt quite work with it, one of those things I couldnt put my finger on but I suspect it ws badly geared.
First of all, this is NOT a sick kind of joke, its actually going to happen in my town, so I was wondering what is the legal standpoint if a "citizen" catches you speeding?
Full item.............
Residents living in Nuttall Lane and Whittingham Drive in Ramsbottom, UK, are fed up with drivers speeding past their homes. So, now these people will be given their own handheld police radar guns to trap these unlawful drivers. Residents will be trained by police on how to use equipment and to monitor motorists from outside their own homes.
The so called "speed watch" (radar gun) campaign is still undergoing some changes and fine-tuning as to how exactly it will work. But most likely it will work the way that if a resident using traffic radar gun clocks a speeding driver, the details will be passed onto the police who will then send out letters and maybe even tickets.
The scheme will be officially launched on March 3, and will start in Greater Manchester first. If it is successful, it could be launched in other areas. Though it's has been already used in some rural parts of the country.
During the training, residents will learn how to use the equipment, special techniques for catching offenders and how to record full speeding incidents. Read more
>> 37mph in a 30mph limit.>>
But the speedometer will most likely have been showing a higher
figure....:-)

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
You are right chaps, she thought that she was doing 45 mph, I told her she would probably be banned for 6 months. She is usually a very slow driver, we have been overtaken by many lorries on the M1, when I have had a drink, and once by a 3 wheeler!
She is one of those people who say that you should obey the limit and if you are caught it is your fault. That is why I laughed. No doubt I will end up paying the fine.
I've got it narrowed down to two (I think)
1. Mar 06 BMW 320 M sport touring, leather interior, 7000m, BMW main dealer £21850 (assume there will be some movement on the price-no p/x-any suggestions on how much is likely)
2. Brand new Peugeot 407 2.2se Coupe, main dealer supplied £16500
My main aim is to minimise depreciation when the time comes to sell in around three years. (I do around 10k miles/year)
Two very different cars, but I like them both. Which is the sensible option. Read more
Yeah mlc, live up to yr handle and get a 500bhp Morgan or TVR.
I was in London recently and drove up the West Cross Route (A3220) dual carriageway from Shepherd's Bush to the A40 Westway doing 50 (it's a 50 limit) and got flashed by the GATSO there. So far no NIP, just wondered if anyone else had been erroneously flashed by this camera? Read more
It's been there, I would guess, for at least 3 years. There is also a digital scamera on a high pole on Shepherd's Bush Green (south side!) 30 limit.
I'm interested in an 03/'53' Passat 2.5 V6 TDi auto with only 11k miles. I'd appreciate any tips on (a) how to confirm the mileage is genuine (there's only been one service, at 8k, and I assume one MOT at 3 yo), and (b) where are the likely weak points to be in a car which apparently has been hardly used. Some years ago, I bought a 3yo Espace V6 with only 18k on the clock and had nothing but problems with it - the main one being that the catalytic converter was shot. Read more
On both VWs I had (Golf and Passat) that could be setup for long life (i.e. variable) service, Dial/Leaseplan had long life service disabled and therefore a service every 10,000 miles. For a car doing about 20k pa that's double the services.
Now for a lease company you'd have thought they have liked long life service because it saves them money. The fact they did not go along with the long-life/variable service means .... they disagreed with it or something??
I did query it once and got told Leaseplan did not want (at the time anyway) to use this.
Do manufacturers choose a oil change interval based on corporate standardization or max engine life?
For example, consider this engine jointly developed by GM and Fiat.
two very different service intervals AND viscosity.
1.3 chain cam diesel fitted to Vauxhall range = 20,000 mile interval, 5w30 synthetic longlife oil
same engine fitted to Fiat range ( multijet) = 12,000 mile interval, 5w40 synthetic.
Fiat won`t specify the 5w30 oil even though its the same engine.
I`m just using this as an example as its the same engine, but why? Read more
Am suprised that Fiat haven't specified extra virgin olive oil (although I prefer something a little more experienced).
I have just bought a 1994 clio and it is losing water, has emulsified oil in the filler cap is idling erratically and has water in the sump.Is this a straight forward head gasket or what could the other possibilities be.thanks Read more
cracked head? but you won't know untill you get it off send for crack testing to be sure. more than likley you will get away with a simple gasket and a skim.. good luck.

But they'll stop making spares after 10 years - Mad carrot disease, or an EU length and straightness regulation.
