I've got it narrowed down to two (I think)
1. Mar 06 BMW 320 M sport touring, leather interior, 7000m, BMW main dealer £21850 (assume there will be some movement on the price-no p/x-any suggestions on how much is likely)
2. Brand new Peugeot 407 2.2se Coupe, main dealer supplied £16500
My main aim is to minimise depreciation when the time comes to sell in around three years. (I do around 10k miles/year)
Two very different cars, but I like them both. Which is the sensible option.

Interesting question - you seem to be getting the 407 for £5k off list which is presumably why this isn't a no-brainer in favour of the BMW.
What Car thinks the Peugeot will be worth 36 % of its cost in 3 years - say £7k. The BMW would be worth 50 % of £26,500 but 'your' 06 model will be four years old - perhaps £10k - £11k. - all of the above ignoring inflation.
Maybe someone in the trade can come up with a more accurate estimate for the BMW - otherwise it's for you to say which you prefer driving. As to reliability, the BMW should be the better bet unless the first owner has caned it - and that's why I personally would go for a brand-new car (although in my case it wouldn't be a Peugeot).
One final thought - how likely are you to live up to your nom de plume and have a MLC and change your car sooner than 3 years? The more likely this is, the better the BMW is as an option.
