I haven't heard anything about pace cars recently ~ I'm pleased to say! I remember Doncaster having them.

While one can quite understand that an aggressive mimser driving several
mph below the limit just to be on the safe side
might feel they need a silly bumper sticker to explain their
behaviour, it can only make things worse in the real world
which is full of people even more irritable than me.
Thank you, Lud - you have explained in 3 lines a point I failed to convey in 15. :-)
SWMBO has been on her last placement of nursing college, and this has been in the community.
I was horrified to see that the car's mpg had dropped to 29mpg, car is a 1.9dci Scenic 2004. Usual mpg is low 40s with normal driving.
However, in the community she is literally sometimes stopping off 3 times in the one street. Walking is not an option for various reasons.
If she had to end up getting a job in the community, and the Scenic is due for a replacement in July, am I looking at maybe getting a petrol if the economy is going to be that bad? Or will a petrol maybe be doing sub 20 mpg if not worse?
Taxis and Couriers do stop start journeys and they mostly use diesels so is it a case that petrol equivalent would deliver much worse mpg given these conditions than the diesel? Read more
My Yaris diesel averages 57mpg on stop/start/in town journeys. Around 67 on long runs.
Petrol engines on stop start? Choke usage= bore wear /high fuel consumption and exhaust wear.
SWMBO is THE expert on stop start motoring - average distance 1 mile. She averages 55mpg in a 106 diesel.

I am currently having problems with my clio, It is a L reg 1.4 auto. While driving the rev counter will suddently jump
up to around 60000 rpm, and then settle back to 30rpm.
Also when sat at lights it is prone to jumping forward, or feels like it is slipping out of gear.
I was wondering is it the Idle control problem or worse still a gearbox fault, or could it be something easl?
Any idea's? Read more

My Ford Focus tail light/brake light has stopped working - I've changed the bulb twice and it refuses to work. Can anyone tell me what could be wrong? Read more
Probably the bulb holder, not unknown on a focus
Proof that totally unregulated traffic IS possible and that it doesn't necessarily result in accidents.
By the way, I spent three months in India, and this could have been filmed in a hundred places.

Of course it's possible the buttons are just there to amuse
the passers-by and don't really work. I do hope so.
You are right. As a pedestrian the buttons have no effect whatsoever. The lights will change in their own good time. The buttons are simply things to touch and feel good, like idols in Hindu temples, or certain parts of the anatomy of Henry Vlll's suit of armour.

dear oh dear, could have put to use some local prison dwellers to fill in the tunnels and put in some tubes for the badgers for about a tenth of the cost, instead of spending a ludicrous amount on making the badgers a crib worthy of MTV.
can anyone tell me if a 2000 zetec shares the same oil for the gearbox and the engine or are they seperate .
its a manual gearbox and changing into1st and 2nd always feel stiff until the car warms up . any ideas

Yours is a fully synthetic oil to SAE 75-90. Sold as GL-4, so if you're getting aftermarket oil make sure it's not GL-5 (it does funny things to bronze so I've read).

Hi
Just had an mot on my 1997 astra estate, they told me the horizontal wishbone bushes need replacing on both sides. should i replace the bushes or buy replacement wishbones with the bushes already fitted?
cheers Read more
Yes, I agree these bushes aren't bad to do if you have a decent vice. To ease the task of removing the old bush, I cut out the rubber centre of the old bush, and then hacksaw a cut through the outer of the bush, taking care not to cut into the wishbone itself. This weakens the shell of the old bush enough to make it a really easy job to drift out. You can then use the old shell as a spacer between the jaw of the vice and the new bush if you don't have a large enough socket.
When putting the new bush in, take care to line the mark on the rim of the bush up with the mark on the wishbone - this aligns the stiff and weak (voided) areas of the bush correctly. If you don't line these up properly, you will get odd effects like steering under braking!
