Don't get too excited. Only RHD (whatever name) MGTFs are going
to be finally assembled at Longbridge from components produced in China.

I don't think anyone was excited HJ!

A motorist has been caught doing 172mph on a rural A-road, police said today.

He was apparently clocked by a Pc's speed gun on a bridge over the A420, which runs from Swindon to Oxford past Faringdon, Southmoor, Appleton and Cumnor.

If convicted, he would become Britain's fastest speeder in a car. The current record is 156mph.

Porsche have spent what 40 odd years developing the 911 series of cars they go
fast don't break and handle well (so I'm told)
A high speed train was delivered last week into Southampton docks. It will do 180
odd mph. The train will have had a miniscule amount of development compared to the
Porsche because just how much track is available for testing?

We have been testing "the train" for over a hundred years. This model of "the train" is a direct descendent and evolution of the japanese bullet train from the early 1960's. Just like the Porsche in fact.

Forum Pop ups
Neiltoo

I've just turned the sound up on my computer, after some time with it mute, and find that the site has pop ups, either still, or again.

Maybe I've missed something but weren't they stopped a couple of months ago?

It hasn't bothered me since my blocker has stopped them silently, but I still think they're inappropriate.

The ones that get through from any site always reinforce my determination to never use the advertiser.

Any body like them?

OK I know I should get out more!

Only the ones causing other problems - eg, Dating Direct and pop ups promoting gambling.

No adverts = no funding for the site = no site.

If there is a particular pop up that is causing problems, then I suggest you address the matter with HJ and he in turn will contact the media agency if there is a genuine problem.

Question engine cleaner
horatio

Is there a spray on foam or something which will dissolve the oil in a way that it can then be washed off with a hose pipe or pressure washer (I would remove the plug leads and protect the dizzy cap etc).

How effective is the method you are going to suggest? Read more

ggh1

Do no use an engine degreaser over tarmac, it can dissolve the tar.

Petel

Hello all.
All the usual searches having proved fruitless can anyone please advise if they know of, or have seen available somewhere, a miniature car radio.

By this I mean, a radio unit ( little black box ) much smaller than the standard car units, without all the bells and whistles, which will pick up one or two preprogrammed stations only ( and stay on them once selected )

Where the on/off switch and two small speakers, can be mounted remote from the unit and the unit can still use the standard car antenna.

Any input much appreciated.
Thank you. Read more

is it a liana, because their profile must have gone up! (top gear ref to anyone who doesnt watch it)

seriously, to assist with your little problem, why not look at it a bit differently. Most of your requirements can be satisfied by an mp3 player.

samsung have a new one, the yp-k5, which has a built in fm reciever and speakers. light, portable and about £120. I think this was the thing they had in the last pussycat dolls video......if anyone noticed the technology!

use a bit of something to mount it in the car - a big blob of bluetack, or the stuff advertised below.

The only downside is no connection for the ariel.

But apart from that, your other woes are sorted.

oh, but dont forget to take it out of the car.

Saw a smallish Mercedes truck today with a sign on the back stating ?This vehicle is limited to 40 mph on single lane roads.?
It was indeed doing 40 mph on the single lane each way A6 and causing a tail back.
Are we likely to see more of this?

These cameras are due to become operational in march apparently and as the rules on 7.5 tonners have now changed and over the next couple of years most of them will come under the 56 mph rule so bunching along this section can only get worse. These are average speed cameras, unlike Gatso's which should be set to 10% + 2 mph tolerance, although according to the local paper they do have a failing when used on roads with more than one lane.

Friend's S reg 1998 Mondeo diesel:
The engine has started to run very roughly. Took it in to Ford dealer, they checked ECU etc. I suspected a slight blockage in the injection - so have put detergents in and given it an Italian tune up (ie revved it lots in driving). No joy - if anything the knocking , and occasional belching of smoke from exhaust have increased. Any ideas or tips? Read more

Can't reveal where they came from; but they were complete, unfitted, new units [pump, turbo, even alternator and clutch;] they've been handy for bits [and boats] over the years. Only got one left now.

milkyjoe

ive got my MOT tommorrow , will using ron 97 instead of the usual ron 95 fuel be of any benefit to the out come of my exaust emmisions during the test,or am i just going to waste money? ive got a high mileage mk 3 fiesta (89) also any tips before i take it in for the test.cheers Read more

The Emissions test done at an MOT is prescribed by the Ministry as to be done first and most test station do that. It is not compulsory but it is also in the interest of the testers that the car is not belching out junk whilst they are testing the vehicle. An before you argue with that, I have just come back form the MOT test station and read the prescribed test procedure documentation whilst one of my cars was being tested. Regards Peter

Forum Z4 or not
cdbr

Some sort of mid life crisis going on here but I am tempted by the Z4 for a two contract hire deal - 2.0se, mainly for the fun of it, top down etc. The difference in price between contract hire over 2 years from an independent company and BMW franchised is £190 per month - is there a catch? Is the car a lemon? Read more

Pugugly {P}

My Hairdresser rides a Ducati GT1000. Does that make that bike a Hairdresser's bike ? She doesn't think so.

The Z4 is an acquired taste, not for me despite it's credentials. But I'd prefer that to a number of alternatives. I'd want to a six pot though or a diesel, do they do a diesel ?!
