Hi All
Just wondering if this problem has happened to anyone else. Driving up the A1 Sunday at about 70mph the engine suddenly died on me. All other electrics are fine but now the engine will not crank and the immobiliser light flashes on the dashboard when the key is turned. Now if it is the immobiliser can i bypass it , i assume it imobilises the fuel pump and starter solenoid.
Any help would be greatly appreciated Read more

I'm sure you didn't mean to post your serial number for the whole of the world to see - so I've removed it - DD Read more
Really good website for anyone wanting to do anything with electronic stuff in general. You can find service manuals, and all sorts of useful software on here if you use its search engine:

Bring it on - have a company fuel card - doesnt
cost me a penny in extra tax either -
Presumably you log and pay for your private mileage though. Either that or you're going to get a really nasty surprise one day from the Revenue when they demand all the back tax within 28 days (I have seen this done, and they are completely ruthless).
Fuel cards were one of Gordon Brown's first targets when he and his band of criminals appeared on the scene in 1997.
I ditched my private fuel option soon afterwards and opted to log my miles and repay private miles at an agreed rate. This rate is also watched by the Revenue and if they think you're making out of it, they'll whack a bill your way.
In my experience, they're slow, but they get there eventually. Depending on how good your company accountant is of course.

Hi
Not sure if anyone will know this, I have just swapped by Pug 407 for a Saab 9-3 Linear, On my Pug it would auto lock after 10 mph, I found this really usefull as alot of the time i have a laptop / Phone in the car as i'm a Rep, I have been in my collegues Saab today that this does happen, but on mine it doesnt, they are both the same year the only difference is the mine is the 150 TID and his is the 120 TID.
Is this something that you can do manually if available, on the Pug you just held the central locking button down.
Kind regards

It could well be the same as the Vectra.
If it is, then it could also depend on the year it was made. Mine is a Jan 2004 Vectra and the above "trick" cannot be done by the owner. It has to be done via a Tech2 ecu reader. From mid to late 2004 onwards, it was possible to be done as above.
One of the more grotesque manifestations of the current phase of consolidation in the world automobile industry must be the appearance of the Chevrolet badge, a notably meaty and inelegant American symbol forever associated in my mind with roaring military trucks and heavyweight saloons driven by US chavs, not to mention various Corvettes, on that sweet little Noddy car the Daewoo Matiz.
The badge itself seems to make the Matiz top-heavy so that it looks as if it might fall over. Read more
And did you know the BMW badge is the symbol of
a spinning propellor from their aero-engine making days.
So they say, but the white-and-blue chequered pattern also comes from the Bavarian coat of arms.
I think the speedo in my new car is overreading quite a bit at 30 mph.
Is there any way of getting this tested and/or re-set? Read more
"But are those the default factory fit rims and tyres for the car?"
Yes
The mid-day news is full of tree hugging rubbish about carbon emissions. Air fares must rise to reduce emissions! People will still travel, the jets will emit gasses whenever they fly, full or 1/2 empty, how will the money raised be spent to benefit the environment? They can't modify the aircraft engines to produce less noxious gases. At a slight tangent please help me answer this. I usually travel by myself (lucky or unlucky depending on your point of view!) - if I travel from Birmingham Airport to Malaga which way produces more emissions?
1. Taxi to airport, low cost flight B to M, taxi to my hotel.
or
2. Drive B to Channel, ferry across either to France or North Spain, drive from Calais or Bilbao to M. Apart from the 4 days travel involved in the drive my guess is that flying is way better for the b***** environment than driving my car! Read more

Here, here Armitage Shanks.
You forgot to mention the buring coal fields in China and Indonesia, and volcanoes, which I doubt can ever be tamed.

I have a 5 series BMW, bought recently, and two days ago the petrol guage was showing half way between empty and a quarter full. The low fuel warning light wasn't glowing, which comes on normally when you have around a gallon and a half left in. The car stuttered to a halt, and as luck would have it I was able to coast to a petrol station 400 yards away to fill up. It started then straight away. Any ideas what the problem is, and how difficult to fix? Read more
There is a press report this morning that a committee of MPs' has recommended that cars with big engines be taxed at that price and that the 70mph limit be reduced. The committee chairman is something called Yeo. Is it the Westminster air that turns our politicians into driveling idiots or are they born that way? Read more
You can't make a case for the Citroen C5, even Clive could not have invented an uglier car.

It is a mechanical TD engine. If it has an imobilisor it will only affect it on starting. I think the only electrical thing to stop these diesels is the stop solenoid - worth checking. Also, is the cambelt ok?
