Am posting this for a friend who hasn't got internet access.
He had the same problem a few months ago & called out the AA.
AA man contacted Renault who explained the re-programming procedure & the plip worked again for a few months.
It has failed in the same way again. He contacted Renault Customer Service expecting to get the same info they provided to the AA but was told he had to take the car to his local dealership for a chargeable re-program. Not wanting to bother the AA again, does someone know the programming procedure.
Thanks.

Hi,
Have a battery charging warning light lit whilst driving, sounds like a belt slipping as well.
Anybody know if the alternator belt is easy to change/adjust or is it a trip to the garage? Haven't got anyway to work from underneath other than a jack.
93 1.6i zetec if that makes a difference.
Thanks.

OK so here's the scenario, cruising down a pretty clear M40 towards London at 15:30 yesterday.
Motorway signs indicate two nearside lanes closed ahead. So like the good little sheep we are we all herd in to the outside lane and bowl along at 20 mph for abour 5 miles until theres an all clear sign.
In between, nothing, nada, zip, zero, nothing cleared to the side, no debris nothing!
Someone either switched on the wrong sign or left it on for hours after it was needed!
Next time I am NOT moving over until I see the obstruction, and apologies if this means me shoving in the queue at that point.
Also usual 40mph signs on a clear stretch of the M25 but thats so common now its hardly worth mentioning. Read more
With permission, I quote from a contributor to the MB Club forum:
"A friend who worked for Borg Warner in the 1980s told me this afternoon that the majority of factory rebuilds were due to people topping up with gear oil instead of transmission fluid. The resulting black goo tended to cause the valve block to become obstructed, leading to rough shifts etc."
I wonder how much of this is still going on. Read more
Well, don't shoot the messenger. I've no reason to disbelieve the intermediate source and I do wonder why the original source should have made it up.
Hey there, I bought a second hand Astra 1.6 estate Vreg last October - its an Automatic and I love the car.
Yet this morning there was a noise from under the bonnett, like a whirling noise when I accelerated off. Although it did sound different when stationery too.
I peaked under the bonnet having absolutely NO CLUE what i was looking at and at a guess the noise seemed to be coming from this belt that was going round. Is this is cambelt?
I know on Astras they suggest you have them replaced every 40000 miles my milage is currently about 36000.
Does this sound like it could be the problem? if it is I hear it is very bad to leave it as if it breaks then valves can buckle etc.... But is it ok to drive around for a few days?
HELP IM A WOMAN any advice would be good.
Thanks Read more
The belt you can see going round is not the cam belt. The cam belt is under a cover. Its probably the alternator belt you can see spinning.
1/ If a cam belt breaks it will damage the engine badly. They are changed by mileage or time. Your time is up. get it changed fairlyy soon
2/ The noise could be anything. get it checked out. Probably the alternator belt or bits to do with it, Not fatal but will cause oyu a breakdown if it goes.
I have a 1997/8 omega, auto, diesel, saloon. Underneath the rear boot trim is a 9 way Socket and plug which is obviously for trailer electrics, and a single white wire terminated in a sigle socket. The 9 way socket is fully wired with heavy red and brown wires plus a number of thinner wires mainly black with coloured tracers. The plug has only a single black/blue tracerwire shorting out two terminals. The other metal terminals are missing from the plug. Can anyone tell me how to connect a standard 7 wire trailer lighting set with audible relay, and will I need to have the electronic bulb failure warning system reset by a dealer?

Hi all.
Just wondered if it was possible (please note I don't say practical) to make a citizen's arrest if one spotted another driver doing something really dangerous on the road? If so, what would plod's reaction be if they were called out whilst you had the other driver under your 'control'?
I am talking theoretical here (anything to get out of doing work on a Monday morning) but the thought (not the action) did occur to me on the drive in today.
Have a good week!

if its 506.01 long life oil 13 pound a litre is about average
you may find it a couple of pound cheaper but my searches have not revealed large price differences.
castrol slx2 is the easiest to buy but it is still 40 pound for 4 litres. you can buy it off ebay for a good price but its a trust thing!!
Hi All,
Just had an interesting discovery having had a puncture on my BMW 330 (a gash in they tyre which made it flat very very quickly!)...... The space saver spare will *Not* fit onto the wheel - it fouls on the brake calliper - confirmed by breakdown recovery chap !!!!
Has anyone else come across this or know how may variants of space saver spare wheel BM has?
Also curious as to what I should expect. The car was sold via the approved used programme, it is only 6 months old and 1600 on the clock (i am in my 3rd wk of ownership).
I now have a car with a flat and no usable spare. BMW assist have now arranged a flatbed recovery for tomorrow - I nintend to go to my local tyre fitter, followed by a visit to Lovetts!!! Read more
'twas on the rear - outcome very simple...incorrect 16" spare provided on a car with 17" wheels (congrats BMW UK).
Now they're struggling to find a space-saver tyre to fit a space saver wheel they've ordered. 2 wks at the last count.
Recovery was a farce too....nice flatbed covered in glass and muck from an accident he'd proudly recovered last night...not proud enough to clean up though :(
My triumph has vinyl seats and in the warm weather they burn your bum and make you sweat buckets so I was thinking about getting fitted covers to put over them. Suede style or thick cotton stuff (preferably not going to shrink in a down pour if I accidentally leave the roof down). Anyone know any suppliers? I have looked at a few of the car sites that do seat covers and most of them seem to be the nasty nylon ones to put under mechanics' rear ends rather than day to day ones. One site I did find did mention sports seat covers but here were no pictures and no details on what materials were used....
