I have a T reg Fiesta Zetec which seems to have developed a rear wiper problem. Whilst driving in the lovely recent heavy rain I have the front wipers on of course and I switch on the rear wiper (which is naturally on the same stalk) only to find it causes the whole wiper system to pack up, thus leaving me in a layby with a screaming baby waiting for the RAC as no spare fuses handy (a lesson learned there I believe!). RAC turn up & bung in new fuse and all OK & I don't touch the rear wiper for rest of journey.

Go to clear rear screen again today when starting up and have front wipers on etc. and bingo fuse goes again... so I nick another fuse from the fuse box and off we go leaving the rear wiper well alone...

Anybody had this problem and is it an easy fix for a keen novice or does it mean the inevitable trip to the garage???!!

It sounds like there is a fault in the rear wiper motor which is taking current directly to earth, thus overloading the fuse. The front wipers must be on the same fuse.If you put a meter across the input terminal of the wiper motor and earth, having disconnected the cable, and get a reading of a few ohms, then the motor is at fault and can be replaced.Otherwise go to an autoelectrician.

THe Rover 75 and Jaguar S Type were both launched at the same 1998 Motor Show at the NEC. Personally it thought the 75 the better looking car.

But ignoring the fact a revised S Type exists.... for a volume car (e.g. the Rover 75) six plus years is a long time.

If the 75 was a Ford/VW/GM/BMW/Mercedez "group" car, the totally new Rover (i.e. new platform) would now exist... for Rover they never got a new platform...

For a while I liked the 75 but it quickly dated...

Hi all,

Thought I'd mention that there's a FREE testing session at Silverstone for the F1 cars tomorrow and Thursday. Today it was a bit wet and only Williams turned up, but the Renault and Jordan trucks were getting set up so hopefully there'll be more tomorrow.

I'll be there if anyone else is, introduce yourself, I'll be under the green and blue brolly wearing a red and black...anorak.

CAr is W124 E300D - 1995 - last of the W124s. I need to remove the inlet manifold to get access to a diesel pipe that is leaking - then rerplace the pipe + seals that join at the heat exchanger unit.

The inlet manifold looks starightforward enough - any special things I need to look out for?

Once off do I need to de pressurise the fuel system to replace the pipe - + do I need to bleed when the new pipe is fitted?

Thanks for advice.

I have been attempting to cut and paste an old thread contribution to a newer thread. At one time it was possile to search by entering contributors name only. Is there any way that this can still be done?

my trusty old volvoil has grown a warning light on the dash. Its a green triangle with what looks like an upside down letter y inside.Everything seems to run ok (for the moment !!)but I'm geeting twitchy wondering what it is.
I've checked my Haynes manual, I've tried on the net and I dont have the original owners handbook so I'm stumped....any volvo genius out there any idea what it could be warning me about before something falls off....eeekkkk.

Same thing happened on our old 940 - the fix was a 10 minute job by the dealer who simply cleaned a sensor. It never happened again.

I've just seen this in the Aberdeen Press & Journal. Sorry if it's already been brought to the attention of the backroom. The article begins like this:

"Road safety campaigners have petitioned general election candidates to fight plans to provide a section of dual carriageway on the main A96 road from Inverness to Nairn.

The stretch of road from the city to Dalcross Airport could be upgraded to a dual carriageway within three years following a fast-track study, which is expected to make recommendations in September.

But the recently formed A96 Corridor For All Alliance pressure group has insisted widening the road will put lives at risk as it will increase capacity and motorists' speed."

This seems a bit strange to me. I though dual carriageways were considerably safer than busy single carriageways.

My brother was banned from driving for drink walking ... in
Sweden. Presumably in the UK a drunk cyclist could in theory
be done for being drunk in charge of a vehicle?
Leif

Yep.

About ten years ago, the Leicester Mercury had two stories on the same page : one was a man drunk in charge of a bicycle (I'm sure his brief tried to argue that as he wasn't riding it, he was okay), one a man drunk in charge of a pram (complete with infant). Both were convicted and fined.
