I've been reading several motoring forums about HDI engines for the last 2-3 years, I have never read anything like this.

www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picasso/ is perhaps one of the best sources.

If you are getting a new engine, don't worry.

Hi there

Just had a call from a friend his engine blew on his 95 rover 600 2.0 Td.
He got a 96 replacement engine and put it in the car.
But he cant get it to fire at all.
Does any one no if there is any differences in these two engines or the electrics..

Hi- Car just had annual service. On returning home I noticed that when I use the footbrake the N/S front sidelight comes on with the brakelights.

Anyone know what could be causing this and could it be as a result of the service?

Coincidentaly the annual service is usually followed by an expensive period where previously unknown faults manifest themselves. On an 11 yr old car I suppose this is understandable.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks DD.

Guess what they had to fit to get it through the MOT? Brake light bulb.

I can take the car back and hopefully leave my chequebook at home.

Regards DougB.

The 'auto diagnostic' warning light has just appeared on the dash. (However, it didn't reappear after switching off and leaving for a few minutes)

If you read the handbook it indicates impending engine catastrophic failure and rush to your Peugeot dealer! The car is a T reg 1.8 petrol estate, 88K miles. The 'airbag' warning light has been flashing for 3 years, and supposedly 'fixed' by dealer on two occasions.

Oil and water are OK; car is serviced annually.

Could it be as suggested, catalytic converter? (or faulty electrics)

Any views on best course of action?

Hahaha flashing airbag light. Mines done that for 6 years and started when I test drove the car. They resoldered (aparently) the connectors under the drivers seat, but that only fixed it for a week. Its been back loads of times to have the under-seat connectors replaced, but it always ends up flashing again not long after. I think one set of connectors lasted 6months once, but now I don't bother.

Its probably a good thing that the airbags are dissabled. I wear glasses so dont fancy having them implanted into my face when the air bag goes off on its own (as I have seen happen with a 406 and a 306 that were owned by friends. Fortunatly both times were when the owners got out of the car and closed the doors)

Anyway, enough rambling about the airbag light. As other people have said it is most likely that your cat or lambda sensor are on their way out if the light comes on intermittently (I've had one, then the other fail on my 1996 406 and both times the engine warning light came on 'sometimes')

Still going round in ever dizzier circles, looking for a replacement family car for my well loved ZT. I've spotted a 520 sport avus special edition, dec 02 (52 plate), 16,000m for £16,995 from a main dealer. This is on par with Glasses guide for retail. The car seems to have a good spec, but would all those in the know consider it to be a good long term family car. Could the current BMW owners tell me of likely running costs. The car looks great but is at the extreme top end of my budget (it's actually well over, the wife thinks it's £13'000). Will I have to re-mortgage to run it and is it likely to suffer horrendus depreciation? Read more

Well, I've waited three days so far for the dealer to reply with the finance deals and still nothing. I was dead set on buying this car, I thought it looked great. However, this indifference has just cost them the easist sale they were ever going to have. If they can't be bothered to sell it to me, what chance they would take the trouble to put any future faults right.

Can anyone help me with instructions for removing the driver's seat from a '95 Escort 1.6Si?

I need to repair the supporting "mesh".

I can't seem to find the way to free the seat from the runners.

Thanks Read more

Thanks mjm. I doubt I have either pre-tensioners or seat air bags on that model, but will check VERY carefully!!

can anyone shed anylight on this my rev counter in my mk4 (1998)fiesta does not work. If the weather is quite cold it does work also when i turn the ignition the airbag check light comes on then goes out (i presume this is supposed to happen) but again only when cold. As soon as the cabin starts to get warm especially if i put the heater on the rev counter fails. Someone suggestd it must be something contracting due to the cold and therefore making a connection. If so how do i get behind the clocks in the dash and will this mean removing the steering wheel.
thanks in advance for any help. Read more

It sounds like a bad connection of some sort. You might be able to get at the multiplug from below, i.e. the footwell, though it will be fiddly and you'll have to know what you're feeling for.

I presume you're reading a Haynes account of taking the steering wheel off before you begin? While I'm not saying their advise is wrong, I have found on an Escort that you can do the job easily enough without taking the wheel off as Haynes suggests, it just takes more maneuvering to get the cluster out, which may not work for chunky fingers. Also if you take the wheel off you'll no doubt have to remove the airbag as well. In any job where you're leaning on/over the steering wheel the horn can be a nightmare. Take its fuse out before you start so you don't annoy the neighbours: it might be called "Hazard Warning" fuse (hazard triangle picture) which will also knock out the hazard warning lights.

Nice article in Saturday's DT Motoring section about James Cracknell's '67 Mustang import. Good to see the younger brigade discovering what we've known for years, that proper muscle cars emanated from Detroit. He didn't quite get it right though, a 351 cu in Boss Mustang 1969 was a lot more car.

I know, I've got one and it's still for sale ;+)

My '66 convertible before I sold her is still on the HJ photo site, and much missed.

Unbreakable cars, utterly reliable, over-engineered and all parts available to this day. Not to mention drop dead looks....

Anyone help with this.

Clio 1.2 Grande. 2000/W plate.

Electric window drivers side has had a small piece of plastic which can only be described as a runner for the cable to run through.

This piece of plastic snapped ( well the corner anyway ) and I have been advised by Renault dealer that I need to purchase a whole new regulator unit costing £156 + VAT. All for the sake of a 3 pence piece of plastic.

Does anyone know where I can obtain this small piece of plastic without buying a whole new unit ?? I have pictures of said piece if anyone wants to know what it looks like Read more

Fiesta 1.4 with Weber TLD carb. I think my automatic choke has failed, (difficult starting but no problem when running or starting from hot). Am I right in thinking the choke butterfly should be seen to be closed when the engine is cold (with air filter cover removed) ? Mine remains firmly open. Read more

Claude

Thanks guys, I've fixed it, at least for the moment. The choke is driven by a bi-metallic spring in a housing. Externally there is a pressed steel stepped cam which has an idle adjustment against it. When I flipped this screw clear of the cam the choke butterfly immediately snapped shut. I also realised that flooring the throttle also causes this screw to move off the cam. Engine started immediately and during warm up the choke butterfly slowly opened and also started to close when the engine cooled down. I suppose if it happened once it can happen again but at least I've got a way to get started.
