Morning all,
Since changing the thermostat on my ZX I think I have managed to get an airlock. The engine temp rises normally but even at a decent temp there is no heat from the blower.
I saw a decent thread a bit ago about getting rid of airlocks in these engines but I can't find it in the archives. Can anyone tell me where I can find it ?
Thanks

I have a brand new Scenic 1600
I have noticed straightaway a flat spot whereby as soon as you engage first gear and ease off the clutch there is a momentary spot where nothing happens hence inducing, however carefully one tries, a significant and thoroughly irritating jerk in the movement
I took the car back to my dealer who acknowledged the problem, put it onto the computer and diagnosed nothing. I then insisted on driving another one which did exactly the same thing
I have been driving for 35 years, I have 2 other modern cars (a Honda Civic and a Mazda MX5 ) neither of which have any such problem
The garage will take no further interest saying that that's the way it is
Where can I go from here? Renault UK simply send me back to the dealer
There is clearly a design fault with this model
The garage of course as always say that no one has ever complained before
Has anyone else out there got a New Scenic 1600 manual with a similar problem?

My 99 Scenic has a slight flatspot on pulling away, as you say higher revs was the order of the day. However, Shell optimax cured it right away, and it came back when used with ordinary unleaded. I was happier with more welly than 4p a litre dearer.
I'm slightly confused (nothing new). I used to have my breakdown cover with Green Flag. A few years ago I'm sure they were taken over by Direct Line and I was duly transferred into the care of Direct Line. However, in the past few months I've noticed that Green Flag still exists in it's own right. Have I been hijacked? I'm sure I've never made the conscious decision to switch from Green Flag to Direct Line - or is it the first sign of old age! Read more
This is news to me. We get new letters and cards and little tax disc holders from Green Flag every year!
In fact, I used them last year when my keys were locked in the car.....whilst the engine was running.

Hi,
I've got a Renault BERLINGO van (P reg). I want to fit a CD player.
However the radio/tape player is in built and made by Renault. It also linked up to a security code that you have to type in to be able to start the engine. Anyone think that I have a chance in hell in buying and get a engineer to fit a CD player?
Should I just pop along to Halfords and ask them if they think there is a chance one could be fitted?
Thanks Read more
Excellent news.
A friend has a Scenic with a similar issue. Currently googling to find units that are compatible with the Renault stalk controls.
I have a 7 month old Beetle cab bought brand new, it has developed a number of faults, mainly electrical, which have been rectified under warranty. During one such visit to the local dealer the valet person reversed the car into another car resulting in damage to rear offside. Dealer ?no problem we will replace offside wing and rear bumper, spray it up you?ll never know the difference. Oh yeah! After three attempts and three rejections we are now trying for a fourth time to get a decent colour match and a blemish free finish. What started as a small localized repair now involves repainting threequarters of the car.
Prior to the accident the car was original factory finish and immaculate with 5000 miles on the clock. During the past 7 months it has been at the dealership for a total of 3 months.
Question how will the fact most of the body has been resprayed affect its current value. Does diminution of value apply in these circumstances and if so how does one go about calculating a figure on the loss?

Had the pleasure of watching a delivery of Ford Mavericks at a dealership in Somerset back in the early 90s. Transporter driver got distracted and started to lower the upper deck rather than the lower deck. Spotted his error when the SWB on the lower deck had shrunk 8 inches or so. He got himself sorted, emptied the lower deck and starts to bring the upper one down. Gets that wrong and LWB ends up hanging, briefly, by the straps. Ping!..... rippp ping! Crunch!
One LWB Maverick lying on its back for all the world like an upturned beetle.
Both cars repaired and sold on as new to the fleet customers that had ordered them.

I might be wrong, but the alternator on Isuzu is just behing driver side wheel, dont think it is on GM. 17DT is code for Isuzu.
Whilst cleaning the garage out yesterday in preparation for the car going in on frosty nights, I found the following accessories that use the cigarette lighter. At some point or another, I found it necessary to have
1. Shaver that plugs in
2. Mobile phone charger
3. Cheap handsfree (bought from a petrol station)
4. Torch with magnetic back and long cable.
5. A floodlight with the "brightness of a headlamp"
6. Electric heated car scraper (yes, I know!)
7. Fan (bought in France (great for recirculating hot air!)
8. Dearer handsfree that had wrong connector for my phone (anyone got a Nokia 3410 cable for a Mr Handsfree unit?)
9. Tyre inflation compressor (still use this)
What other "essential" cigarette lighter (or to be PC - accessory socket) accessories do you have and, more importantly, do you ever use them?

Hi guys
Was looking for a new car on the internet when I came across a 04 plate Daihatsu Charade 1.0 SL with 7400 miles on it available to my local dealer for £4995. Went there, placed the deposit, the salesperson was as surprised as me with regards to the price, said that he will phone head office on Monday morning.
Of course, this really honest salesperson told me today that the head office said that the vehicle has been sold, but he suspected that they probably made a mistake with the price. True enough, went on the internet today and the same vehicle is being advertised for £5995.
What rights do I have with regards to claiming back my deposit (should not be a problem I hope) or pursuing the lower price? Many thanks. Read more
Suprised the price is wrong - these things don't cost that much more new so £4995 sounds about right for a 6 month old one.
Why not see this as a blessing in disguise and go and buy a different car - the Charade is far from a decent car, and something like a Ford Ka, Seat Arosa etc would be infinately better.
This isn't an automotive issue but I couldn't think of another forum where I could ask it.
Anyway, as far as I can see a tuboprop is basically a jet engine with a turbine at one end and a propeller at the other.
What advantage does this have over a conventional jet engine?
Wouldn't a conventional jet engine be cheaper to produce and more reliable as it doesn't have as many parts? Read more
We have a couple of Lucas Shaftmoor Lane refugees here, who vouch for the complexity of the fuel systems for gas turbine engines - they are mainly happier with the aroma of hydraulic oil than with that of aircraft fuel!
In my (slightly off topic) post, I was only thinking of the turbochargers which are fitted to automotive engines. These usually expire from poor lubrication, and abuse.

I nearly pulled out in front of an S40 the other day - twilight, heavy drizzle, roundabout, moved my head backwards and forwards to see around the A pillar, thought, he is indicating to leave the roundabout - it's safe for me to pull out. Whoops! He is not indicating, his indicators are on all the time!
Is this legal in the U.K.?
I have seen American spec. Goldwings with these running lights.
What happens when you indicate?
Does the rhs one go out when you indicate left?

On my V40 the side orange side marker lights are completely separate to the indicator side repeater lights.
I notice these and find them very useful on a dark night. If a car so equiped is sitting at a T junction waiting to turn left and you are approaching from its RHS on the main road you often cannot see its head or side lights (car angled away from you) its rear may be hidden by a building or hedge and the active indicator will be on the opposite side of the car. The orange side marker light is the only visible light to the approaching car.

OK, bit of education first..
The 'box' is the injection pump - this raises the pressure of the fuel and controls when and how much much is injected (diesel equivalent of carburettor). The big pipe is indeed a fuel return - the fuel is used to cool and lubricate the pump internals. The small pipe is called the injector leak off pipe - a small amount of fuel comes back from the injectors, which is also used to cool and lubricate the internals of the injectors - if you look carefully you'll see small rubber hoses joining all the injectors together.
Now, if you are leaking deisel on the floor you have a leak - my guess is that the return hose is leaking where it goes down the back of the engine. You will probably need to replace this rubber pipe all the way from the injection pump to the steel pipes under the car. Air getting back into the injection pump causes all sorts of odd symptoms with not running, no power, and may upset the injection timing (hence the smoke). I would get this fixed and see where you are.
The oil light coming on is a bit more concerning - it might just be a loose connection of chafed wire, but at 200k it could mean the oil pump is worn out. I'd be tempted not to spend excessive money on this motor in case it goes bang, and find another one - they're really cheap now....

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
