What oils can I use on a 115bhp PD TDi engine (now out of warranty and don\'t want to pay Audi prices for oil and filter changes)? Can I take advantage of the KwikFit Moblil 1 offer?
Cheers

Anybody know of a stockist in the Teesside area of the above or similar product?. Getting a new car soon and would like to "childproof" the trim and carpets.

No Dosh's product is good but if you want just the protection at "trade" prices look at...www.stay-dry.co.uk/index2.php.
This is the website of Grangers International. Look for clothing or tents in the drop down menu and that should lead you to the Fabsil products.
I buy the standard Fabsil protector in 5lit cans for about £23. You'll see that's a bargain if you consider the 500ml packs often seen at up to £12 that will no doubt be the same chemical.
At the bottom their website has a stockist search by postcode.

Hi i'm new...i've got a '88 vw clipper 1.8 8v
i'm having a bit of trouble with my autochoke. After engine has been started in the morning it revs at 2,500 - 3,500. This normally calms down to 1,500rpm after 20ish minutes. the only ways i have got it to idle at 800rpm is when i switch it off for 10 minutes then re-start or when i put the heater on i can see rpm drop to idle speed.
once the idle speed has been reached.....if i take it on motorway for say 2 miles....once a standstill has been reached it revs at 2,500 - 3,000 rpm again....if i put heater on it drops to normal idle speed.
wot is wrong with it? autochoke sticking? coolant?
thanx in advance

1. OK
2. I can't quite remember, have a look a round the clubgti.com wwwsite. Look for posts by a chap called Golden re pierburg carbs (there is a search facility)
3. the choke pull down is the black plastic thing on the the front left of the carb. it has two pipes going into it. remove the pipes (remember how they go back) attach a pipe to the bottom pipe attachment and suck. the choke should open a bit and no air should leak except through the top pipe attachment. put your finger over the top pipe attachment and carry on sucking. now no air should leak at all and and choke should open up a little bit more
4. with the engine running hot the screw should sit against the pushrod of the three point unit, if not then its jamming somewhere, most likely the waxstat is holding the throttle open
can anyone supply any info on the kia carens diesel auto. only i thinking of buying one pretty soon, and just wondering if anyone can shed any light on good and bad points and what to look for with them, if anything?

... after having filled up at the local Shell and paid, on returning to the car to make a note of the mileage and number of litres etc to keep the running total on the fuel consuption... to see grandma in her Toyota Corolla doing exactly the same thing on the other side of the pump...!

Perhaps belonging in the gadgets thread..... I am delighted to leave all the calculation and logging to the computer on my old Scorpio.
Even better is its ability to convert all the litres into mpG!

Thanks for responding everyone.
Anyone have any experience or comments about this particular Persona? A colleague is selling a superbly maintained 97/P model with low mileage, and I'm currently tempted as the Favorit is gradually becoming a pain in the posterior.. The asking price will be somewhere in the region of £1200, but it does need a new windscreen (about £95 apparently) as the old one has two pellet holes in the drivers field of view, as a result of being parked in a less than pleasant part of Nottingham.
I'm aware of the Mitsubishi Lancer heritage of the car, and of the slightly rough edges in terms of the occasional rattle and squeak, but everything else seems quite favourable. The seller says that the spec is pretty good, and that even though it doesn't have face melting performance it's still nippy and handles very well. If I didn't know and trust him, I'd be worried about the hard sell ;) I'm not actually looking for a new car, so please don't worry about trying to find alternative suggestions - it's just idle curiosity at this point.
Any comments would be appreciated! :)

Ahh gotcha, thanks for responding :)
Oh, and I did mean to say 'were those' rather than 'was those' above - I'd changed the sentence, but failed to proofread it.

Hi
Has anybody here experience of *selling* a car at auction? I know somebody planning to do this via BCA but as his car is over 5 years old (it's worth about £1500 according to Parkers) I don't think they allow you to set a reserve price - which sounds like a good way to get fleeced to me!
Anybody got any experience of this?

My experience was not good. As I parked the car up prior to registering the car for that day's auction I was given a number of low offers on the spot. I refused, figuring that the level of interest in the car park would be reflected in the price bid in the hall. Having dropped off the keys and completed the paperwork I returned to find the offside rear tyre neatly skewered by a screwdriver, or some such. I had no time to swap the spare as I was due at work. The car must have looked a million dollars as it trundled through on a flat. Suffice to say the price I got was some way short of a million dollars.
Can anybody help? I have a '98 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro, 78,000 miles. Engine started misfiring on 1 cylinder. Took into garage and they say oil and water is mixing. They took the head off and valves/seals showing some signs of wear but they also think there is a piston problem potentially. Has anybody experienced something similar? It seems to be foxing the garage as to what the problem really is...

I'd really hope (for theirs and your sake!) that they carried out a compression and cylinder leak test. This would have indicated where the compression loss (if any!) was going....
After all, it *could* be an electrical fault.
505.01 can be had in semi synthetic - Millers Oils do one that meets the spec.
I would have thought that most (probably all) of the oils that meet 506.01 are synthetic.

No, not that one.
