Hi, I didn't get a manual with my '98 Scenic. Can someone confirm that the mileage/trip computer readout shows a main oil level gauge for a few seconds after ignition? Mine started at 6 blobs showing when I first got the car but now shows anything between 1 and 5 blobs (after a few hundred miles). Checking the oil with the dipstick shows it near to the max mark (certainly over 3/4). If the internal display is oil level, why would it go as low as 1 blob? Should I be worried??
BTW The garage changed the oil before I collected the car and seem to have used a no-name filter. Could this cause a fluctuating level?
Cheers,

I think you must have a duff blob sensor. On my scenic, it was always no less than 3 blobs, and matched the dipstic reading. The
new diesel laguna has a "oil ok" indication on startup, and you can check the blob level with a press of the trip button. So far its never been below 4/5 blobs. I hope its accurate as the dipstick on this car is the most hateful thing ever. a 6 foot lon plastic orange serpent attached to the filler cap.

My car has been giving off horrid egg like smell for a while now, I have a feeling the CAT isn't working properly. Also the car sometimes shudders and then cuts out when I release the accelerator. What do you guys think:-

Are the smells coming from a faulty CAT and is that related to the car struggling to stay on at times?

Harry,

I used to run a Citroen ZX 1.4i. After pressure washing the engine, some water got trapped underneath the spark plug covers and caused misfiring for a few days when the engine was warm. This made the exhaust give off a rotten egg smell and the engine management light would also occasionally come on. Once I'd got rid of the water, the engine ran perfectly and the next MoT test showed the catalyst to be fine.

What I'm saying is, the symptoms that you are finding may be due to a simple fault and the catalyst is probably fine.

The wife is likely to take a job where the Company Car would have to be either a Passat, Vectra or Mondeo and very likely of the diesel persuasion.

The one she'd prefer is the Mazda 6.... which is slightly incompatible with the list!! (but she'll be 'discussing' this in an attempt to change things)

Assuming the Mazda remains out of reach what are the opinions/experiences you have of these cars. Also as a pointer the Vectra is currently running a poor 3rd on account that's it's sooooo hideously ugly (her opinion and one that I agree with!)

I have driven a number of new Vectras - no diesels though.

They drive nicely enough but I really didn't like the external styling and the interior was not at all to my taste, very dour and lacking in design flair. I also don't like the indicator cancelling system.

I would not entertain spending my own money on one of these. The Mondeo is much much nicer to look at and sit in, and a bit better to drive too IMHO.

"Yet another manufacturer thats tried to copy design cues from the Alfa Romeo 156."

Some of them maybe, but not that rump. 7 series BMW more like.

I think one of the previous posters has hit the nail on the head - it's the wheels they need to be bigger. The boot looks like it's on casters!

Hi,

I\'ve just drove into work in my 00(W) 306 2.0 SE Cabriolet this morning, I\'ve noticed that when I lock my car using the lock button on my key fob it now makes audible noise.

Does this indicate anything? As it has never made this audible noise before.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Read more

Problem solved the boot wasnt shut properly.

Checked with local Peugeot garage. Apparently the noise is only made when a door, boot, bonnet is not closed properly.

Thanks

Ok, I guess that will do it. There is a pointer to the Watchdog article if anybody wants to read it. I don't think we can [safely] add anything to that here.

Thanks.

glowplug

Hi,

My 405 is becoming increasing difficult to start and so I guess I need to replace the glowplugs. I'm really sure it's the plugs not a fueling problem. I will be using Berus.
However after a quick look under the hood I thought it would be a good idea to ask for any advice on removing/replacing the far left glowplug buried behind the injection pump.
I really don't want to take it in just for the 'plugs!

Thanks.

Just for info having done the deed.

Remove intercooler.
A 8mm spanner to remove the connecting lead. Then use a 12mm cranked ring spanner. A magnetic pickup tool is really useful to stop you losing the nut and manipulating the old 'plug out and the new 'plug in.

Has anyone run one of these cars? I'm interested is what they're like with regard to service and repair, especially price and availability of parts. '94-2000 model with VQ V-6 engine and auto transmission is the variant of interest. I know the US equivalent model is legendary for its reliability. Read more

My Mom's 1.0litre Micra has bevelled the front outer shoulders quite dramatically. I borrowed an optical tracking gauge - the front wheels are toeing in by 0.5 degrees - seems a lot to me...! Can anyone tell me what the factory setting is for this model.
Many thanks in advance.
