Hoping somebody out there can help.
Fiat UNO k reg 999 fire engine with fuel injection. Very occaisionaly it will not start, turns over and there is a spark but no fuel. By dropping some fuel into the injector body or spraying some "easy start" style stuff it will start and no further problem. Any clues?
Thanks in anticipation. Chris Read more

Hi Pete,
Thanks for that I will check out on my return home and let you know, as I said this is such a very intermittant problem it's difficult to know if one has fixed the problem or whether it just "decided" to work.

Attention all ST-24 Mondeo drivers - I am considering the purchasing of such a vehicle, circa 3 years old and 30-40k miles and would like to hear from other owners of their experience. In particular, I would like to try and understand the frequency of the the engine management problems which burn's out the cats, as highlighted by HJ. Also, any other issues which a potential owner should know about. I am planning to own the car for 2 years, adding another 40k or so. Many Thanks Read more

Did anyone watch it today?
I forgot it was back on C4 this afternoon for the first of its last three one hourly shows.

Any improvements? Read more

Banger racing next week .... will Jason Plato be racing?
If he does race, I am sure he will be treated with the utmost
respect and decorum by the other competitors ....

Didn't a similiar thing happen to Tony Mason on Top Gear a few years ago when he went Reliant Robin banger racing?

I keep passing an original shark nosed 3 series BMW on the way to work and had forgotten what a nice looking car they are.

I actually quite fancy buying one now so does anyone have advise onto the pitfalls of this certain model? The 316 with the 1.8 litre engine is the one I fancy. There doesn't really seem to be much info of the E21 model on the net so I could do with some sensible advise!

Thanks,
Andy. Read more

I have a September 2001 VW Passat 130 bhp PDI. (10,000 miles to date). Very rarely it jumps out of 1st gear when using engine braking going at about 5 mph down an extremely steep hill; the engine is obviously not pulling the car. Like all good faults it cannot be reproduced at will. VW know nothing about it and my dealer is willing to investigate but only if I can make it happen - which of course, I can't when I want to! The only suggestion the dealer makes is for me to be sure that the gear lever is pushed firmly into the 1st gear slot (which of course it is!)
I'd be grateful for any ideas as there are several very narrow 1:3 hills near where I live that I have to crawl down regularly.
cheers

Hi,

I have been looking at buying a BMW M3 for a while but, since my budget is tight, I have been looking for the best value. However, the next deal seems too good to pass up:

BMW M3 EVO MG 98
Full options
Harman&Kardon HiFi
LHD
Satellite Navigation
50k Miles
Full Bmw Service History
£12k

Any thoughts on the price, i.e. how much of a steal is it?

Gauge not working at all on wifes 1997 106 extra time, have checked connections on tank sender unit seems ok, has 4 or 5 wires on top of unit, surely connecting together the right 2 would make the gauge rise thus eliminating other faults so that I would know for sure that its the unit at fault. Peugeot say they are £50 - £100 + vat so I want to be sure before I pay out.
Any comments welcome. Read more

Have you checked that the float is not stuck at the bottom? If fine grit accumulates in the tank it can interfere with the float. Take it out and give it a good rinse.

Any comments on rear disc pads renewal welcome, I've done front pads before on many cars but not got much experience with back. Special tools needed? Screwing the pistons back in ?
Thanks Read more

Andrew-T

Same remark applies to rear pads on the 306, Charles. I haven't needed to change any yet, but I presume the process is the same as the front ones?

Who has a speed hump outside their house and likes it?

I think the supporters of speed humps (school headteachers etc) do not live on a road with speed humps, nor do the people who decide where to put them.

Better yet (which I forgot to mention before) one of the arms of the table-top junction has a zebra crossing about 4 feet in from the top of the ramp! It must be a rather frightening prospect for pedestrians to see a car come bouncing up the ramp as they cross the road.

I wouldn't mind betting that whoever designed the thing has never had to use it either in a car or on foot.

Question Tyres
johnny

I ripped a front tyre wall whilst parking - a protruding piece of old cast iron drain cover where the kerb has crumbled away. 1. Are the council liable ? If so what's the chance of them coughing up £70
2. Is it a good idea to have a matching front pair (My spare is a brand new Goodyear 195 65 R15) or is that just the tyre shop looking for extra trade? Read more

Andrew-T

Just get a mate for the spare - no point having an unused tyre in the boot (or wherever).
