A friend of mine owns a 98 renault laguna. The haynes manual says that to change the brake fluid i need a special renault diagnostic tool. Is it not possible to use a pressure bleeder or more traditional methods, or do i need to go to the renault dealer? Read more
So far, I have managed to avoid buying a car fitted with a catalyser but I have a nasty feeling this will be unavoidable very soon.
My reasoning:- They are horrendously expensive to replace, and seem to be a bit 'fragile' to go by various comments. Plus, I always bear in mind the statements like 'they don't work very well in the UK because of low ambient temperatures' and 'for this reason, they cause more pollution than a non-cat exhaust'.
Your experiences, opinions, and even hard facts will be appreciated. Read more
My 3yr old A4 blew its cat (known problem) Audi paid 3/4 of the £500 bill.
Can anyone help me out ?
I've got a renault laguna 2.0 rt on a 95 plate, The problem i have is with the heated rear windscreen. when i turn the demister on nothing happens. I've put a circuit tester on the heater and theres 12.3 volts running through it so theres plenty of power there. There isn't a drop in power when i turn it on either. this seems to be a common problem as a few friends and family memvers who own lagunas also seem to have the same problem. short of replacing the windscreen any ideas ?

I'll just add that resistance tests with an ohmmeter can be misleading because the supply wire will earth through the dashboard switch warning light when power is off.

Judging from today's news, there should be some good, North Sea tempered quality cars for sale soon... Since they are as yet unregistered, I wonder if their history will be known? It must be impossible to get rid of every trace of salt. Read more
I think the Captain of the ship read the destination incorrectly. They should have been going to the sharks in the car industry, not the aquatic ones....
This is motoring related. Does anyone know roughly the cost involved in sending 4 wheels and tyres from Birmingham to Glasgow? 16" Alloys they would be.
The other problem I seem to be coming across is that most couriers only operate on behalf of businesses. How do you arrange a collection between non business users?
Never been in this situation before!
Cheers

We have 'em in Leeds when a new building is built, such as the Royal Armories, until they could get the new real road signs up and until people realised exactly where the building was.
You'd get a sporadic notice saying "For Royal Armories follow *" and then several * along the route.
We also get it for termporary directions for local pop-festivals, such as Glastonbury. "For Music Event, follow*" and the like.

Just read HJ's story about the ship sinking in the channel with 3000 BMW/Volvo's.
Give it a few weeks and the salvage auctions will be advertising 'lightly flood damaged BMW's '.

Due to the close proximity of the vessel to the Essex coast I understand all the radios and alloys have already gone !
Have seen mention of this issue before, but not the solution!
How do you get sufficient access to the engine side of the bulkhead to release old cable, and engage clip fitting of the new?
Removal of intercooler and associated pipe work does not enable enough access.

Hi all,
I have an Astra 1.4 i (1998, last week the Engine management light came on while driving (drove fine apart from light). Now when starting the car it has a very high idle speed and the engine mangement light comes on after a count of 5. I analysed the ecu 'blink codes' and it came out as 21 which I believe is a problem with the throttle position sensor. I tried disconnecting the sensor but still very high idle speed.
Can anyone give me a pointer as to what I can try next? Read more
Purchased a new Throttle Position sensor, fitted it and everything is fine now - idle speed back to normal and no engine management light.
Thanks to everyone that replied, this is a great resource
Hasn't got ABS has it?
