Check out my little brother's web-pages detailing, very tongue-in-cheek, his temporary mods to his car! Very amusing.

My son and his mate are in touch with a company who are knocking up some LED sets for undercar lights.
I will try to remember to post the outcome here.
I have been considering the usage of cars by men and women and it seems clear that men drive smoother and cleaner although all be it less greener cars. The adverege women stalls and starts and uses the car for school runs and 100yd drives to Sainsburys, thus being extremely inefficient on fuel.
Gents on the other hand tend to take longer distant journeys and will always take the chance to pull out of a turing rather than hesitate and thus stall. On adverge methinks therefore, that pumps should consider usage by men and women and accordinly charge less to the more eco-friendly men..

Hello Carole,
I think that was a small mistake on Darcy's part, perhaps he mean't to say a racy horsey girls car.

I rang round for insurance quotes on my Audi, and managed to get £450 off the renewal premium. Problem is, the insurer won't cover me for theft unless I can tell them what kind of immobiliser is fitted, and provide proof of installation.
So I took the car to a local alarm/immobiliser specialist, who told me they can't identify the immobiliser. The reason? According to them, to be Thatcham approved there must be nothing on the immobiliser to say what model it is. So without the original documentation (which I don't have), I'm a bit stuck.
It is made by Foxguard, who apparently are no longer in business. Since it works fine, I don't want to have it replaced if I can avoid it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can identify the model? Read more
With regard to the fuel filler pipe. The Mark 1 Golf has a short length of pipe from the main metal filler pipe to the tank.
This *might* be the correct diameter. I suspect VW would use the same dia pipe for most older models.
I think the breather connections are real close to the joint from the filler pipe to the tank. This is the joint where they all leak. You dont want to risk blocking the breathers do you? I would be surprised if the pipe is leaking at mid height.
Let us know how you get on?
One of my customers has just collected his £250 14yr old car from a service. He has chosen to run for this for a couple of years but now choses to have something a bit better....a lot better in fact.
He is looking at the cash purchase of a two year old Honda Prelude, one of the last. I know little of these apart from the comments in the car-by car breakdown on this site.
Obviously Honda have a top reputation but what else should I know.
He just wants some general advice/conversation about this change.

What do you mean you've read the car by car breakdown, but you still need more info ?
After reading on this forum about outragious prices charged by Ford for replacing the battery and reprogramming key fobs I took mine to my local Ford Agent and asked for a quote .Answer ?7.20 cent I asked is this the normal price ,answer yes its the Ford fixed price in Germany for this service.
A little different to the UK I think. Read more
The Ford Keyfob Caper has been covered a lot of times before. If you ask for the batteries to be replaced, the fob apparently only holds the codes for 10 seconds then forgets them. So if the Ford fitter is clumsy, he loses the codes. I was quoted something ridiculous just to change the batteries, so my reply was that if I can change the batteries myself without losing the codes, then you can and if you mess up then you bare the cost of re-coding the fob. They then backed down, of course.

The chilli red one she told us about? I'd love to know how she is getting on with it. Read more
Took my car to a nationwide fast fit place for them to check the brakes and tracking yesterday.(The one with the dancing fitters from a few years back) Nothing wrong with the brakes but the fitter pointed out a nail in one the rear tyres, which was also a bit low on tread. He quoted me 91 pounds + fitting + valve for a new one.
This morning I stopped at a regional fast fit place (I think they have 17 branches in the SouthWest) They wanted 62 pounds for the tyre, fitted. Same tyre, same everything.
Needless to say I promptly handed over the keys to the car and let them get on with it. Just shows that these big chains are really taking the customer for a ride (Yes, I know they have higher overheads, advertising budgets, marketng appropriations etc but 50% more expensive is taking the wee wee a bit). Many thanks to you all for your help with my enquiry.
What did I do, I hear you ask.......
I rang a local Hi Q (Universal) dealer and whispered sweet nothings in his ear as well as one or two other quotes, (coincidentally - before seeing Pat's worthy suggestion). He agreed to fit/ balance/valves/disposal/VAT...4 Firestone 590's for a straight £100. We done the deal and they're on and rotating.
Thanks again.

The lights on my wife's Fiat Punto go out when the engine is switched off leaving no external illumination for parking on poorly lit streets and country lanes, etc.
I've looked through the handbook and can find no mention of this featur.
Is this the norm for Puntos and do any other car manufacturers have their lights wiring configured like this? Read more
UNO has the same feature and has a bright dash light to say your lights are on.
But why when switched to the park position do the dash lights need to be on ?
Much more useful would be dimming the lights when starting.

MY point was:
"Whilst personally I believe that we should have a strategic rail (and canal) network, there are strong economic and environmental arguments for tarmacing over the rail-roads."
People asked me what they were.
So as a courtesy I pinched (plagiarised, if you prefer) some posts I'd come across on a transport forum.
Then *I* was asked justify some figures in one of the plagiarised posts
So I, more than once, posted the reference it supposedly came from.
Now I'm being asked to justify giving people information on someone else's post on another forum which didn't support the point I was making.
I've hear of clutching at straws, but can't ANY of my opponents come up with ANY arguments against ANY of MY points?
I'm sure I liked the bit about : Jason in the CLK-GTR : big grin
but they could have done a better job on : The survival bit - Ray Mears Mike Brewer is not
