Second generation Forester on sale in UK
With a choice of 125PS 2.0 litre flat four or 177PS 2.0 litre flat four turbo. Dual range gearbox on 125PS, but not turbo. Improvements are listed as better fuel economy, better aerodynamics, greater engine and transmission refinement, enhanced safety, greater interior width, more legroom and better handling. Same size as the outgoing model: 4,450mm long x 1,735mm wide.
New range-topping 140 mph Forester 2.5 XT (turbo) manual for 2005 with 211PS and 236 lb ft torque giving 0-60mph of 6 seconds and a braked towing limit of 2,000kg, which is quite a big caravan. Priced at £24,695 OTR. Price includes black leather interior trim, satnav and new seven-speaker audio system with six-stack CD player.
Existing 177 PS 2.0 XT manual and automatic continued with additional benefits from an audio speaker upgrade with six-stacker CD unit, new alloy wheels, new air-conditioning controls and smaller steering wheels. Upgrades for 125PS 2.0 models include new cloth trim and seven-speaker/six-stacker CD system for the ‘All-Weather-Pack’ model.
All UK supplied Foresters have a three year/60,000 mile warranty plus three years’ paintwork and 12 years’ anti-corrosion cover (with inspections). Also three years’ free membership of Subaru Assistance – a comprehensive home and roadside repair and recovery package throughout the UK and Europe, administered by Mondial Assistance.
2005 Foresters started at £16,445 OTR for the 2.0 X with the 2.0 X ‘All-Weather-Pack’ costing £18,745 OTR. The Forester 2.0 XT is available from £20,995 OTR for the manual, cloth-trimmed model.
Further facelift and new 158PS 2.0 engine with 186Nm torque for 2006. 0-60mph 9.4 seconds, top speed 122mph, combined 30.4mpg, CO2 220g/km. Auto available. Prices from £17,595.
Also 230PS 2.5 turbo with 320Nm torque for 2006. 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds, top speed 134mph, combined 26.4mpg, CO2 254g/km. Auto available. Prices from £21,995.
