Renault Megane Coupe (2009–2016)
Euro NCAP 5 stars passenger protection, 4 stars child protection, 2 stars pedestrian protection. Scored 37 out of 37. Joint highest score ever, with Nissan Qashqai.
If the car has Carminat TomTom satnav, then the digital speed display in the dash will be from the GPS rather than from the car's final drive speed sensor and will therefore be more accurate in most circumstances, though not where the GPS cannot 'see' enough satellites to triangulate the position of the car on the surface of the earth.
What to watch out for
17-10-2013: Report of 1.6 dCi 130 (in a Qashqai 4WD) failing due to a blown injector causing the lubrication on cylinder No 1 to wash away and wreck the engine.
22-1-2014: Electric window failures seem to be a 'known problem' on early Megane coupes, but Renault dealers are charging £120 - £130 for 'subsidised repairs' rather than fixing them FoC.
8-2-2017: Report of Renault Megane 1.6 coupe, now at 60,000 miles, needing new driver's side drive-shaft at £180 and now knocking has developed again from both driver's and passenger's side driveshafts.
