Peugeot 206 (1998–2006)

Model History

3 or 5-door supermini sized between 106 and 306. 60 bhp 1.1, 75 bhp 1.4 and 90 bhp 1.6 petrol engines from 106, but new 70 bhp 1,868cc DW8 diesel based on XUD. PAS and height adjustable steering column standard.

136 bhp 2.0 litre 16v GTi, 90 bhp HDI diesel and 1.4 litre with AL4 4-speed torque converter automatic all came later. Price-cuts down to £8,795 for 'Look' special edition in Spring 2000 included PAS, aircon and 1 year's insurance.

Sporty 110bhp 1.6XSi priced at £11,695 and ultra economical 63mpg 2.0HDi eco priced at £9,845 both launched February 2001. 68bhp PSA/Ford 1.4 litre HDI engine available from January 2002, gets to 60 in 15 seconds, top speed 104.3mph, combined consumption 65.7mpg, CO2 112g/km (£80pa VED) and priced from £8,995 for 3 door HDI Style.

June 2002

Three three point rear belts from June 2002 and lots of spec upgrades through the range.

February 2003

180 bhp GTi 180 from early 2003 at £14,995, a/c and CD standard kit.

June 2003

Complicated range of Entice, Allure and Quicksilver specials all with extra equipment for Summer 2003.

May 2004

New DV6 TDE4 1.6 diesel from May 2004. Develops 110bhp at 4,000rpm, 180 lb ft torque at 1,750rpm with overboost to 192 lb ft.

Peugeots generally had below average warranty repair costs in 2003 Warranty Direct Reliability index (index 86.25 v/s lowest 31.93). Best of the range is GTI HDI 110 which combines plenty of fun with 59mpg.

November 2005

New Model Line Up Urban / Verve / Sport / GTi, all with Euro IV engines. 206 Urban features a more powerful 1.4 litre 75 bhp petrol engine with remote central locking and electric front windows.

206 Verve replaced Zest and S models and offers air-conditioning, full body colour coding, sports seats, front fog lights, sports bumpers and alloy wheels.

206 Sport replaces previous SE and Sport models. Has 15" alloy wheels (except 1.4 petrol 5 Dr model which is on 14" alloy wheels), aluminium interior pack, leather steering wheel, electric mirrors and a new "Sports" interior identify the new 206 Sport.
