Recommend a reliable car for £6000?

"My auntie is looking to spend around £6000 on a car. Reliability and low running cost are important. What would you suggest?"
For that she can get a new Citroen C1, Nissan Pixo, Peugeot 107 or Suzuki Alto (two out of those four are usually up for £5995, and the C1 and 107 are free annual tax.) Alternatively, a bigger new Dacia Sandero Access at £5995, but that’s not free tax.

Recommend a small, economical runabout?

"Our main car is a Volkswagen Touran. We require a second car primarily as a local runabout. We’re looking for something cost effective in fuel and insurance, around 12-18 months old from Motorpoint in Derby and have up to £8000 to spend. We need to be able to accommodate two kids seats, preferably at a decent height as my wife has a back condition."
£8000 goes a long way at Motorpoint. Probably a Suzuki Splash or Vauxhall Agila, but also check out a Citroen C1, FIAT Panda, Nissan Pixo, Peugeot 107, Suzuki Alto and Toyota Aygo.

Should we consider the Skoda Fabia for a small commuter car?

"I am returning to full time work in September and we are looking for a small, basic second car that I can use for my journey each day. My commute will be only 10 minutes each way along windy, country lanes and we would like something reliable and economical to run. We would also like our daughter to use it in a few years time when she is learning to drive. We would like to buy new or just a couple of years old (we will need to take out a loan) and would be interested to hear which make of cars you think we should look at. My father-in-law has suggested looking at a KIA Picanto or Skoda Fabia, but what else should we look at?"
Citroen C1, FIAT Panda, Hyundai i10, KIA Picanto, Nissan Pixo, Peugeot 107, SEAT Mii, Skoda Citigo, Suzuki Alto, Toyota Aygo or Volkswagen Up. All cheap to run, some with free annual tax. Not the Fabia because is it now an old model and up for replacement soon.

Buying small car- what would you recommend?

"I am about start work as a junior doctor and am looking to buy my own first car. I can spend up to £4000 and I was wondering what you would recommend? I will be driving short distances regularly, but also doing the occasional longer journeys."
For that sort of use, for £4,000, a Citroen C1, FIAT Panda, Nissan Pixo, Peugeot 107, Suzuki Alto or Toyota Aygo.
