Why does my Golf take so long to start?

I have a 2004 Volkswagen Golf 2.0 petrol. I bought it 2 weeks ago and it is starting up quite slowly every morning. The clock has also reset itself. I thought it might need a good motorway drive to charge it up but that hasn't made a difference. Can you help?

First step, buy a new battery, preferably a Yuasa.
