Can I appeal my speeding ticket?

I was caught on a dual carriageway doing 55mph in a 40mph zone. The road is 60mph and then changes to 40mph, but by the time I had seen the sign I was reducing my speed and was caught. Can I appeal my speeding fine as there was no ‘reduce speed now’ sign?

Just take your punishment because if you let the matter go to court it will be worse.
