Buying a pre-registered car

I am in the process of buying a pre-registered Hyundai i30 from an authorised dealer. The salesman says that they have to keep the 'log book' for the first three months for accounting purposes. Is this correct, or have I anything to worry about?

Plenty. See this case report: www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/legal--motoring-advice/2.../ ANPR traffic and parking offence tickets will go to the registered keeper, not you. You will be at risk of being prosecuted for an offence under section 43C of the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 (as amended) or that a claim made against a car insurance policy might be prejudiced.

Would you buy a pre-reg Insignia Auto for £16000 with delivery mileage or a hybrid Auris or Prius? I am 61 years old and not doing more than 5000 miles per annum. Would you suggest an alternative?
