Would you recommend an Auris hybrid for an elderly driver?

You recently commented on driving your Father's Auris hybrid, and I think I remember your remarking on the smoothness of the autobox. We currently run a BMW 3 Series and a V5 Golf, which is getting a little long in the tooth. As we move towards middle age we are getting to the point where we might manage with only one car, and in any event, at 83, I am probably prone to drive in a somewhat less enthusiastic manner these days so "grunt" becomes a little less important. With this tiny sketch of our situation would you think the Auris a sensible choice? There is also the additional benefit of being free from the London Congestion Tax (we live in the suburbs).

Yes. My dad loves it. My mum likes the slightly more upright seating position (about three inches higher than a Focus). Dad's getting 63mpg on his country runs to take the dog for a walk. It's better to drive than the Prius but, curiously, rides and handles better on 17-inch wheels than 15-inch. Test and rather sweaty video here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/toyota/toyota-auri.../

Decent combination of ride and handling that might suit some people better than a harder sprung Golf or a Civic. A few inches taller than a Golf of Focus so easier to get in and out.
