Is selling by auction a good idea?

Selling a car by auction takes a lot of the hassle out of selling a car, but you won't get as much money for it as selling it privately - especially once the auction company has taken its cut. There's also a risk that your car won't sell at auction, and many auction houses will require an entry fee just for offering your car for sale.
