Honda Accord Tourer 2.2 D (55 plate) - EGR valve fault - parkpre

Just thought I'd post this in case its any help to anyone..

My car developed a pronounced "turbo lag" last summer when the engine was cold. It had done around 90k miles at the time. The problem disappeared as soon as the engine was warm and a few bottles of Redex over the following months seemed to have cured the problem.

Then the cold weather this winter struck and the problem resurfaced. After doing a bit of research, my best guess was a gunked up EGR valve, so I took it to my local independent garage and they took it off and cleaned it for £40. What a difference it made....which unfortunetly only lasted a day before the engine warning light came on and the car went into limp home mode.

No option, but to get it into Honda (arrrggghhhh). One new EGR valve later and £640 lighter, she's now running sweet as a nut.

Couldnt find a cheaper new unit anywhere!

I have looked into EGR valves on several of my vehicles and have concluded that it is more a case of the galleries which lead from the EGR that get blocked rather than the EGR valve itself. Without dismantling maybe something like Seafoam or the UK equivalents such as Power Boost, can help blocked EGR issues. Too late for you I know.

Wynns do make an EGR valve cleaner product, in spray form which may help claen the ports
