Today it's confirmed that the S type replacement is to be called the.. er.. XF..

autopark.blogspot.com/2006/11/jaguar-xf-sedan.html

Well that's a name of a car to aspire too! Should have kept it 'S' type IMO. At least a little kudos.

The name 'XF' has none.

Agreed... going on the name it doesn't stand a chance. It will have to be EXCEPTIONAL to make a name for itself

Was the picture one of a S type or the XF? Looked like a S type with new rear lights!

"We are now moving on to the next stage of Jaguar's exciting new design era,"

If this is new the mind boggles as with the above thread it dont't look any different.

Well the XJ name has done rather well over the last 38 years, also XK, why not XF?
The New Jaguar XF. - PatrickO
The XF is also a name for a popular daf HGV so people will think you drive about in a truck if you say you have a "XF".

There's a pic of the New XF in this weeks Autocar.

Yes it does loook good! (thankfully)

"If you like the new XK, just wait until you see the new Jaguar XF." according to the Jag spokesman.

I don't think so. Just another tired old Jag saloon design wistfully harking back to the good old days.

Warmed over, but still the same dish.

I work on the new Jaguar XF (X250) and believe me, it does look very nice! We are currently building the first proto cars.

Why oh why do Jaguar keep building old mens saloons?

They're not going to crack the BMW/Audi market, so why throw more good money after bad?

Build a nice little sportscar for £30k and everyone will be happy - a sort of upmarket MX-5 (especially Ford shareholders)

because old men have money & they want to buy something with a little heritage, that was built by a Brit (even if the company is not owned by one).......they want something comfortable, but with a bit of go....with the traditional leather/wood combo...

I think BMW/Audi are damned good cars, but prefer the Jag.

I'd love an F Type and really think it should have been made, but in reality a small 2 seater is well anti-social and not all that practical, so is not for all... and now my girth is getting even bigger i've got more chance of getting it in and out of an S Type than a sportscar.....then there's the dogs....and people have kids..... etc,etc

And on what evidence exactly do you base that statement?

I hope they change the front of the car. The pic in Autocar loks like a cheap Chinese rip-off of the current S-type.

7 messages discussing the merits of the design, or otherswise, for a car that nobody has actually seen. Call me old fashioned, but I'll wait until I've actually seen the car before I comment on the design !!
The New Jaguar XF. - stevied
The pic on the link IS an existing S-type with the current lights; these were changed as a result of the recentish facelift.

Right, now my rant. : ) "Warmed-over" "tired" "harking back" etc. etc. yada yada yada. They look good. The XJ is beautiful, it has presence and stance and is timeless and classless, IMHO. I honestly believe people are getting forced into thinking that constant chop and change is good.... that's why BMWs now have Japanese rear lights and stupid pointless fussy flim-flam on their panels.

I know I am in a minority, just wanted to say it!!!

The only pictures that have been published so far are either:
- pictures of "test mules" - i.e. the body of the current car to test engineering changes - such pictures give no indication at all of the XF body style
- artists impressions of what members of the press think it might look like based on guesswork
i.e. nobody has got a clue!

of 4 now. I like the design details of jags currently made that can be seen in Jags decades old.

Better! Just hope they don't dumb it down to please the 'Ah, the old Jags were wonderful (and the new ones look just the same)" brigade.
The New Jaguar XF. - stevied
Mad maxy, you mean ME and my 3 supporters?! : )

Chaps, we're a brigade..... that's fantastic.

Old Jags were wonderful, and why is it so bad if there is a link to the newer ones? I just don't get the argument... would I rather drive a new BMW 5 series with Hyundai Lantra lights and body panels that always look as if you've had a car park ding, or would I rather drive an evolved; both technologically and stylistically, stunningly handsome 5 series (my personal fave being the last model)? Mmm let me think.

I also prefer the old A6, as an aside. New one is another exec barge.

Jaguar are the new Rover

Cars for old foggies, that even old foggies don't want to buy anymore.

Their recent sales strategy has failed completely, but they're still flogging the same horse.

The XJ always has, and always will be a timeless classic, but that's a small market with tough competition.

my wife is 35 and not my idea of an old fogey.......she loves her X Type estate...because... it has the 2 things she insists on; estate and diesel, but combines it with the plus points of a Jaguar, which to her is: good looking car, not looking like anything else, having loads of kit in it, leather and wood

i'm 43 and am a borderline fogey (to some), but don't really fit the 'old fogey' mantle..... and my S type is exactly what i want....... leather, wood, performance, heritage, prestige, british, quality, kit, unique styling

just remember, the old have been around a while, who says that what they've learnt over a period of time isn't some common sense

.......not looking like anything else

Except the old model Volvo V40?

I'm certainly not foggy and my wife (who is a designer and knows a beautiful object when she sees it) was 32 when the S Type came out and she fell in love with it.

".The name 'XF' has none.<"

Perhaps it's a crossflow, I'm sure there is a Ford connection somewhere.

I've posted these before:

But I'll do it again for my fellow fogeys to drool over.

Spot on westpig!!!! I am 34, and certainly not a fogey.

Well done on the younger wife. : )
The New Jaguar XF. - cheddar
I am not the best spella tho I reckon "foggy" is a weather condition and a sit com character, and "fogey" indicates one of a certian age or outlook.

Jags are wicked - official.

My kids rate Jags and BMWs as cooool and MB's and Lexi as "fogeyish".

Can't say I agree entirely which probably says something!
