Hi, I wonder if any you kind folk on here can help a damsel in distress who doesn't have a clue about cars. I only have 11400 miles on clock ( not a big mileage user). Today went out and on way back car started making a funny rattling noise from engine (deep growl). whereas before it was smooth running. Always have it serviced no problems have been picked up .....Any ideas about what has happened here? Thankyou for any help shrewdal

I take it you've done the obvious? That being check the oil and coolant levels.

Also, given the low mileage, is it possible that the exhaust may be on its way out? When the exhaust went at 4 years old and 27,000 (mostly urban) miles on Mrs B's old Punto, it developed a noticeable growl in the space of a couple of miles or so, which proved to be the weld between cat and mid-section of the exhaust. The rest of the pipe turned out to be pretty knackered too, so we had it replaced.

Hi Thanks to all who took the time to respond to this. The problem was the exhaust flexible hose and it all comes in 1 part. According to mechanic this is classed as a "distressed" part and is very common to faults in the punto. Anyway got a new one from Kwik fit for £141 with 3 years guarantee. Thanks again shrewdal
