Scenic II alarm isolation - BobbyG
Does anyone know if I can isolate my alarm? I am going on holiday and leaving it in my driveway. The alarm has a habit of going off for no reason, don't want it to be doing this whilst I am away and annoying the neighbours!

In my manual it tells me how to isloate the interior movement detector but not how to completely disable it (it also has doors, boot and bonnet switches on it.

Any help appreciated.

If no battery backup on the alarm; disconnecting the main car battery maybe?

At least that way it's immobilised.

Mmm bit concerned about doing that with codes, ECUs etc.....
Removing electrical source from Renault electronic systems for 2 weeks, am I asking for problems?

Implication from your description is that your alarm has volumetric sensors such as ultrasonic and doesn't simply have door switches alone.
This being the case...

Most factory fit alarms I have owned don't arm if the car is locked with the key; they only arm if the remote "plip" is used. I have no idea about your Renault, but a simple test would be to lock the car using the key, with a window partially open. After several minutes (in case of arming delay as some times applies) stick your arm in and wave it around to see if the alarm triggers.

An alternative test is to lock the car with the "plip" and unlock it with the key; in cars where the alarm is only armed and disarmed with the "plip" this will trigger the alarm. If locking with "plip" and unlocking with the key doesn't trigger the alarm, then there is a good chance that it always sets regardless of whether "plip" or key is used.

Find where the alarm horn? or klaxon is and disconnect the wires to the sounder?

SJB, sorry in my original post I was meaning that I had managed to isolate the volumetric sensors - it is the door, boot and bonnet ones that I can't.

Being a Renault with keycard, I don't have a lock to put a key in!

does the scenic not have the emergency key for the passenger door? the one that pulls out the bottom of the card?

anyway I wouldnt worry, 99.9% for sure its the volumetric bits that gives you spurious alarm triggers,so bypass that in the normal way as in the manual and you should be fine.

Yes, indeed, but my tests (conducted without disabling the volumetric sensors) will still tell you if the alarm is set when the key is used. If it isn't then you have your answer; lock with the key not the "plip". You will then have an alarm that isn't armed. Period. It then doesn't matter what other switches exist as the alarm won't be set in the first place.

For what it's worth though I think that any "unintended activation" is much more likely to come from volumetric sensors rather than switches in doors, boot, and bonnet. You would probably therefore find that disabling the volumetrics sensors has the desired effect.

DD your comment got me thinking.

Assuming I disconnected the battery, or even if the battery went flat, now being a modern Renault with all the toys, what can I do without electricity!

Open the doors - right would need to use the manual lock located on passenger side door handle.
Release the handbrake - no thats electric as well, would need to go into boot and manually release it whilst following the instructions!
Push the car out the way - no the steering is locked via some electric switch thingies as well

Scary stuff - give me back my Talbot Samba that could do everything without even a key!!!

I'm sure there's a known problem with the bonnet switch requiring adjustment. If it's not right I think the alarm has been known to act up a bit. Drop into the dealership and ask them to give it the once over.

Oily.

Hi bobbyg
just to let you know the set up of your alarm you cannot isolate the sounder from the alarm as suggested its all in one I have tried, yes the bonnet switch is very trouble- some mine was and the dealer had not a clue about the alarm.but found that if like mine it goes off randomly then the only cure seems to be glue a rubber pad or similar on the bonnet in the correct position so as to depress the swicth fully (their is no reliable adjustment of this cheap / rubbish swich).Since Ihave done this simple modification no more intermittent false alarms.Hope this is of some use.I would not personnaly dissable the alarm if Iwas going away on holiday.
