Whilst travelling back home from shopping a thunderstorm errupted & the rain started to pour down like i've never seen before.
Because of the rain i ended up slowing right down to 30 mph (bareing in mind it was on a 50 mph stretch of road), my wipers on full speed, my vision through the windscreen became impared despite the wipers, then i realised my windscreen was actually misting up. At the time my vents were blowing cold air inside the cabin at speed II with my driver side window an inch or so down.
After the changing the vents to hot air full blast re-directing it to the windscreen it took ages to de-mist the windscreen especially at the driver's half of the windscreen!
Should have i done anythin to prevent it misting like that in the first place?

I suspect it was almost inevitable. Humidity in car close to 100%, sudden cooling of windscreen caused by downpour, relative humidity hits 100% at screen due to temperature drop, water condenses on screen.
I assume you do not have air con, which dries the air and would have prevented this happening as the initial relative humidity in the air would have been much lower.

Yes i was on the A1 today when the storm hit. Its the worse weather I have ever driven in, and yes it steamed up inside.
I still have visual artifacts in front of my eyes after the lightening hit the road in front.

Air conditioning itself can cause condensation, which is why the recirculating mode cannot be selected below about 5 degrees C- the system will automatically prevent it.

Any residual moisture in the aircon system can cause condensation (when the aircon is off) when the atmospheric conditions are conducive to it happening.

Have recently encoutered the phenomenon of condensation on the outside of the screen. - Very warm saturated air outside and aircon chilling the screen to dew point - Screen fogs suprisingly quickly when this point is reached

CGNorwich, had the same thing happen to me in my parents car last night. It was such a warm night I decided to put the aircon on and then I had to wait for my parents for about 10 min before moving off. During this time spots of mist apeared on the outside of the windscreen where the airvents were blowing cold air.

Never mind all will become normal in the next week when temps. drop to more usual Summer highs of 16-18C

My Ford Ka doesn't have air con, but i'd thought that would solve the problem of the misting up quicker?

Do you mean having, or not having, aircon? In normla circs aircon is brilliant for demisting. People who have trouble with aircon causing misting from condensation are usually using it occasionally rather than constantly.

That's me! But i'm only following the recommendations in the manual which says to switch it off when it's not needed. Fortunately the electrically heated front screen gets rid of the misting in a matter of seconds.
