CVT Fluid - Phil I
Trying to source small quantity of Esso CVT Fluid (EZL799) Seems to only be available in 20L pack. Any ideas please.

Unipart sell this as 'Transmatic ATF' - should be available in 5 litre containers. BMW dealers also sell it in small quantities as 'own brand' fluid for the ZF CVT on the Mini.

Thanks for that Aprilia. Had also posted on MG rover Forum. Dr. Dave tells me that its available in 5L from BMW dealers (I will presume this comes with non-optional mother of pearl encrusted can with silver filigree round the edges) However he also told me that the Unipart CVT Fluid is not suitable. No reason given.

I have ZF technical data dated April 2006 lisiting Unipart Transmatic ATF as suitable for ZF CVT V1/F transmission. If it is a ZF that you have then the Unipart stuff will do the job.

Aprilla,

On a related note, do service centres (official or otherwise) tend to take note of manufacturers' recommendations - and can we tell!? My Punto CVT speedgear needs DOT 3/4(?)ATF from a certain manufacturer (can't remember which) which is clearly stated on the underside of the bonnet (though not in the driver's handbook). In addition, do they tend to actually drain the system or just top-up. If the latter, I don't think this is good practice since surely small pieces of metal, etc. get included in the fluid over time and does temperature degrade the fluid? Fiat (and HJ) recommend changes (to fluid and filter) every 25,000km.

Cheers.

>available in 5L from BMW dealers

True but not in silver filigree edge can. When I phoned local BMW
to enquire was informed that " Yes we do have that fluid but its in our bulk stocks. You can have 5L if you bring a suitable container" So I did,on Friday afternoon - V. flash showroom with parts counter discreetly tucked away next to service desk. V. smart suited gentleman in charge who relieved me of the plastic 5L container and disappeared out the back. Returned in about l5mins with Oily hands bearing now filled container. Apologies for delay and pre apology for having to go and wash hands before proceeding with transaction. Returns to counter 5mins later attacks keyboard of computer - printer generates small mountain of paperwork including invoice giving full details of fluid spec. and final total of £25.OO. Fair do's. I thought it was well done by Wellsway of Bath.

Aprilia: as far as I am aware this box is not ZF. and I was told some years ago that it was of Ford production. Dr. Dave quite positive about the unsuitable nature of the Unipart product.
