No Nissan Maxima QX (2001 on)??? - Gazza
I have been searching through AutoTrader for a few months now for the newer shape model of Nissan Maxima QX 3.0 SE+ to replace my 1995 Nissan QX 3.0 SE. There is not a single car on sale in the last four months!! Am I looking at the wrong place for this particular car?

I am looking for a cheap, reliable, large saloon with folding rear seats, 3.0L engine with auto box with 100k on the clock and must have LSD and switchable Traction Control - for Road Rally use.

I am not interested in the Toyota Camry or Honda Legend as they do not have standard LSD. All German or Swedish brand are ok but I have heard a lot of horror stories with autobox going, meaning they must be manual but I haven't driven for over 50k.

Is there any other brand/model suggestion?

Many thanks,
Gazza

Think your're being a little fussy. How about a Lexus LS400 or LS430?

LS400 or LS430 does not offer significantly more space inside than my QX yet uses significantly more fuel and insurance cost. Also, I don't feel they are value for money compare to a image-free Japanese large car. Furthermore, foot-operated parking brake means no handbrake turn. Considering LS400 is larger than my QX and in certain rallies I need hand-brake turn to get through hair-pin in my QX (long-way-round triangles to those into road rallies), I will end up with having to do three-point turn in rallies. Thanks for your suggestion but sorry LS is just not suitable.

Very very few sold new. It really does mean you will have to be patient and lucky to get a used one.

The A33-series "Maxima QX" only sold a few hundred a year. I have seen a couple for sale. There was one on Ebay not so long ago and one for sale at a dealer at Grantham - another at a dealer up in the North East (Peterlee or thereabouts). Are you looking at a particular price range perhaps?

Can't really think of anything else that suits your particular needs.

I have recently sold my 1996 QX and had spent a couple of months before hand waiting for the right Maxima 2001 onwards to come up to replace it. I gave up and settled for a 2 year old Primera SE. So I now run 2 Primeras one for me and a 2001 old shape for the wife.
After my QX I really miss the relaxing, effortless and quiet enviromnent of the QX, the Primera whilst modern it its latest guise, lack a little sophistication in comparison. I will probably run it for a couple of years and try out a Lexus GS300 and Volvo S80 to regain what I have lost in the meantime.

Good to know that there are A33 on sale. I have searched on AutoTrader and Nissan's web-site but could not locate the cars you mentioned at Grantham or in the North East. Where did you find them?

I am looking for a 2001 car and I am hoping to pay between £4000 to £6000 for a top spec, dark metallic coloured, 100k miles car. My car is running great so I am waiting for a bargin to come along.

Many thanks,
Gazza

I don't think they're on sale now. I saw them a month or so ago.

try the import auctions at southampton such as "motorway auctions or A1 auctions"
You will be surprised what comes thru them with different names to european models.

I suppose I can go for a Nissan "Cefiro" but I prefer a UK car for insurance reason and the de-restricted top speed. I also prefer the UK version final-drive ratio (31 mph per 1000rpm) than the Japanese version (25 mph per 1000 rpm).
