I have a 93 318s coupe with 97000 miles. For the last 10000 miles or so it has a buzzing sound from the gear lever in 5th.If I put my hand on the lever it goes away. Any ideas? I wondered if it is something in the lever mechanisim that can be replaced. At the local dealers discount rate for older BMWs of £60 per hour I am reluctant to go to them first.
Cheers

There are a few parts you can get from the dealer, the ball-shaped bottom of the shifter goes into a nylon socket, and then connects to a horizontal level for which bushings are available.. These cost a few pounds when I did it a few years ago. There are also rubber mountings for the gearbox and diff, that I did, these I sourced from Eurocarparts.
