The gear Knob on my Rover 200 is loose and keeps spinning when I change gear. Now, whilst i know this is not a major problem, it is annoying!
The thing is I cant find out how to get it off. I cant see any grub screws or retaining devices. The only things I can find are two pieces of plastic, either side of the actual gear stick, which I though may be clips, but dont seem to do anyting.
Anyway, if anyone knows how to get this irritating thing off, please let me know.

Just tighten it up, in a clockwise direction.

It doesn't tighten, it just spins on the stick.

OK, to remove it, you will have to unscrew it whilst pulling up at the same time; that should get it off.

Oh yeah, and while im here, my clutch feels really heavy and when I bring it up, it feels sort of stiff, it comes up in bits if you see what I mean, i cant bring it up in one go slowly.
|
Oh and by the way, with the radio down and the window open, I can hear a squeak when I press the clutch. Also the car is a 98 200, with 30000 Miles on the clock

Clutch cable, common problem.
You should be able to fit it yourself in about 20 mins
Cable is about £25 - it has been modified since the 200 to stop the squeak

Thanks for the info on the gear knob, your obviously right, it did just tighten up, just had to turn it more than I imagined.
