Peugeot 308 Verve Diesel (2009, '09' reg) - Hard suspension on Peugeot 308 - Fford10

Hi –

I have a Peugeot 308 Verve diesel, brought ten years ago on the scrapage scheme (09 Reg). Initially, the suspension was excellent, but just recently it has become very hard and twitchy.

The car has 101k miles, but the shock absorbers have never been replaced (but the normal ‘bounce’ test shows they seem OK) BUT both the front springs have broken, and been replaced – by non-Peugeot OEM parts (but by a decent garage).

Maybe they fitted overly hard springs? I have no idea what spec. they had (but I will go and talk to the garage)

Are there any diagnostics I can use to work out what the problem is? Or maybe it’s just me – I am 71 now, and ten years younger when I brought the car!)

What to do?

Could be they have fitted the wrong springs but I would check the tyre pressures first.

Hi

I had one of these for years great cars if you maintain them properly however....

The ride quality is incredibly harsh and gets progressively worse as the miles rack up.

I took mine to Europe every 2 or three months the ride was transformed on French roads so I reckon it was never set up for the UK's appalling roads.

Its not worth spending hundreds on new suspension given the value of these now and the difference in ride would be minimal.

Its just the way they are.
